I just installed an upgraded HD and TurboNet on my original Sony TiVo (SVR2000). It boots up just fine and shows up as "PTVUpgrade" (or similar) on my DHCP list, but I can't get past the initial call. I even tried hooking up a phone line for the first call, and nothing happens.

I have set the dialing prefix to #401 just as the instructions said, and have a Series 2 TiVo hooked up to the same router in the same exact way, and it has no problems with daily updates. The router LED's show that the unit is connected, and as I said, it shows up on the DHCP list.

The Router is a NetGear WGR614 with the latest firmware.

What do I need to do next to try and get this working?

Did you mean to type "#401" in your posting or did you actually use ",#401" which is what is indicated in the instructions?

Umm, there's a comma there? I'll have to squint at the instruction sheet as soon as I get home and correct it if I did it wrong. :o

Yes, there is a comma; if you didn't include it, it definitely won't work...

I have the same issue I had with 3.1.1x with the ptvnet. I put ,#401 in my string... I see this in the logs.

As you can see it sees the backdoor code... The thing is it still atempts to go out via my phone line.

This is normal. PTVnet is not expected to make a daily call using your broadband connection - only your phone line. You can turn off the daily call feature altogether, however.

that is the biggest reaason I wanted to put my tivo on the network is to NOT use my phone? why would you cripple it like that? How do I fix this broken situation?

We've not crippled anything and the situation is not broken. You don't have to use your phone. DISABLE the call-out feature and you don't have to use your phone. ENABLE it and you do. NOWHERE does it say that you can make your daily-call via broadband (that I am aware of).

Well my definition of crippled is when you prevent something from working. I beleive that follows my definition when you prevent me from being able to turn on ,#401 to make daily calls... and actually there are lots of posts that suggest that it works. I havent found ANY posts saying it is purposefully turned off to where YOUR customers CAN'T turn use ,#401... Being able to make daily calls is the reason why I needed my tivo to be able to connect to my network.

I don't know if you realize this but your disabling the call out feature is not something that tivo will like...

so I have two more questions...

How do I turn off the daily call feature (untill I can figure out how to fix this)

Also is there someone out there that understands Tivo enough that knows what the tivo runs once it establishes a ppp connction? If I can figure out that I can manually tell it to communicate with Tivo.

You are out of line. We haven't prevented anything from working. We give you the option of turning off your daily call; that is all; did you actually READ the installation screens when you were performing the installation? It was your option to turn off the daily call - not something we did by default.

We've ENABLED your USB ports and we've given you functionality.

As with your original post, your questions have already been answered here; be patient, use the search feature of the forum and if necessary create a new post with your specific questions as this thread is drifting off-topic now.
