Ok I have a SIR4080R. It is the standard one from Directv. I am wanting to add wireless networking function to it. Can I use PTV to do this? Is there anything else I need?

Yes, you can do it. We recommend you go WIRED whenever possible, though.

Start with a PTVnet kit; equip it with a USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter, add a wireless bridge or WGA, if you prefer.

If you are up to it, you can. I did not mention it in my response because it did not seem that you were interested in spending the time to go the DIY route; plenty of information here (on these forums) on how to go both ways.

We do not require that you specify your make and model when ordering the PTVnet DIY utilities; as long as your model is supported (and it is) then you will be fine.

Here is the model information (from the download cart web page):

Hughes HDVR2

Hughes SD-DVR40, SD-DVR80, SD-DVR120

Philips DSR7000

Philips DSR704, DSR708

RCA DVR39

RCA DVR40, DVR80, DVR120

Samsung SIR-S4040R, SIR-S4080R, SIR-S4120R
