Hi, I just received and installed my PTVnet upgrade (105hr model) for my Philips dsr708. Since I've started using it, I've had a few glitches here and there and now I've got a few questions.
1) My DirecTivo is on a wired network, hooked up to a Linksys RT41P2-AT (I use Vonage as well, a big reason I went with the PTVnet upgrade). I can access my Tivo from my PC on the network, but when I forward a port with the router so I can access my tivo from the office or other locations, it won't let me in. What could be causing this? I've tired forwarding several different ports, but none seem to work.
2) I would like to install TyServer, and I'm using the tutorial found on http://www.weethet.nl/english/tivo_extract_videos.php . They mention the sleeper hack, and give you two methods depending on whether you have that installed or not. Does PTVnet use the sleeper hack? Is there anything else I should know before installing tytools?
3) My Tivo seems to be quite unstable, and I've had to reboot several times already. I do have a phone line connected to the tivo, but only to use the caller ID feature (YAC and elseed), not to make the daily call or anything. Any ideas as to what could be causing the instability? The only thing I've done is add season passes and other basic Tivo functions, both from the pc and from the tivo itself.
That's it for now, any help or insight would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!
On question 1...
When you say, "it won't let you in..." what do you mean, the TiVo or the router? My guess is that its something to do with the router? Or are you just being asked what the password for the TiVo is?
On question 2...
Can't really help you there. We don't do anything with sleeper or really know much about what sleeper is. Installing tools like tyserver shouldn't have anything to do with that, however -- check dealdatabase.com for information related to tools like that -- remember, you already have telnet and ftp access to the unit, so any guides you are reading that talk about enabling those components are redundant -- all you need to worry about is installing the apps.
On question 3...
Instability is usually related to other activities that might be affecting the unit -- try to isolate things and not do too many things at once and hopefully you can narrow things down. There's no reason why the unit shouldn't operate fine in a secure, wired network with pleny of other computers happily going about their business - we know that works because we've got things running that way here. I'd look into the router to ensure that its not defective or improperly configured -- perhaps the issue on question 1 and 3 are related and you've got something going on with the wrong ports forwarded or port scanning hitting your unit and crashing it?
