Folks - we are getting a lot of questions like this:

"Are your PTVnet kits running 3.1.1e or 4.0? How can I run 4.0 on my Series2 DirecTV DVR?"

Just so you know, this is not something we directly support. The PTVnet kits and tools we offer are intended for running the "right" version of the software on the unit for which it was designed.

With that said, there are a couple of guides out there that you should know about, if you don't already.

Check out the WeetHet - TiVo 4.x for your DirecTiVo guide and David Dellanave's guide too.

The steps required are technical, but having taken a cursory view of both guides, they are well-written and take a step-by-step approach to installing and configuring the software with a minimum of trouble.

As a reminder, these are not our guides and we don't offer support for them. If its not your cup of tea, please consider our PTVnet kits which are preconfigured for most everything but folders and HMO; you can read about those, here, or if you are more comfortable with an easier DIY path, you can check out the PTVnet DIY tools here.

Remember, most of these things don't come easy (unless you purchase a preconfigured kit) so be patient and enjoy the ride.

Many Thanks to Sticky

Thanks for the Info Sticky. It all Worked. I now have the password changed, and IP address set. These things I considered essential before I could put tivo on th internet. I also have an emergency backup should I screw up again. Thanks so much.

Wow! Just the right kind of detailed instructions!

I messed up my brand new never been used HR10-250 trying to upgrade it. I admit I must have done something wrong... If I had seen this information in such great detail I probably would not have made whatever mistake I made.

Strongly suggest anyone attempting to upgrade... make a pot of coffee... sit down and try your best to understand this link.

No matte rhow good the guide is, 4.xx or 6.xx won't work on a HR10-250. You are stuck with 3.xx.
