I currently have a DTV Samsung Sir-s4040r that I intend to hack. Being the cheapskate that I am I went to ebay to purchase a hard drive. ( No not one that was already modified, I mean where is the fun if someone else has done all the tricks for you). Instead of an IDE hard drive that I had bid on and won I was shipped a Maxtor 200GB SATA hard drive. I know that conversion kits exist, but is it worth doing this to my tivo or will it even work? Any suggestion are greatly appreciated. If you have any recommendations on which hacks I should try on this unit would also be appreciated. This is my first time hacking a Tivo, however I am comfortable with doing this since I do a lot of system level coding in unix and Linux at work. Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

I've only seen SATA to IDE converters, not the other way around. Anyway why wouls somebody normally want to slow down their drive? I would suggest you put the SATA in your PC, and put a standard IDE into your TiVo. Or trade with a friend if you don't have a big IDE.
