Adam,
Here are some answers that should get you on the right track; it doesn't sound like you should have anything to worry about here, things seem quite normal.
1. Looks like hackman may not have started successfully; you might try doing a "full restart" of TiVoWeb from the main menu, or reboot your TiVo (not preferred), but not by unplugging it - you can use the remote to restart your TiVo from the "system reset" menu. Note that Hackman does take some time to start up as it scans your entire system for the presense of other applications, so please give it a few minutes before attempting to connect to TiVoWeb with your browser, the system will be busy for a few minutes starting up TiVoWeb as it loads hackman. The key is patience.
2. That is a TiVo feature -- adding a few minutes to the beginning or ending of a planned recording event to account for differences in the programming source's clock and your clock. Experiment with it...
3. Thats an indication that your TiVo's database is not fully populated with information (yet); that is completely normal if you've just turned on the system and set it up; it can take a day or two for all the information to be downloaded from the satellite and the database populated. Patience is a virtue here - the "problem" will go away.
4. Same issue as number three - all the information isn't there yet.
5 and 6. Same thing... just sit back an wait awhile... ;-)
7. It is a generic FTP server installed on your TiVo. This allows you to transfer additional software to and from your TiVo (video information is not stored on drive partitions accessible by FTP so recorded information is not transferrable through the FTP interface). If you are interested in learning how to use FTP, use "google" to do some basic searching - you'll need an ftp client for your PC. There is no username/password on the TiVo. Be careful when transferring files to/from your TiVo; you could render your TiVo unbootable or not accessible on your network if you modify the wrong files, so do your homework before using this capability. FTP is an "advanced" feature (as is telnet) so do be careful. Also understand that educating you on its use is not something we have the resources to - that is why we are clear that these software components are distributed 'unsupported and without warranty'.
8. It sounds like your kit is installed properly and everything is operating normally. So no - jumpers are fine - don't open your unit again (the more you do that, the more risk you take).
I'd recommend you sit back and let most of these 'problems' sort themselves out as they will over time. Perhaps read some basic pc networking tutorials to learn a bit about FTP and if you are technically inclined you can learn how to install additional tools on your TiVo to do some pretty neat things. Its all about how much time you want to spend learning about these things vs watching TV. Do use this forum as a 'springboard' for more information and also check out www.dealdatabase.com and www.tivocommunity.com as there is much information an resources out there for these advanced capabilities.
Thx,
Lou
