I'm trying to upgrade using InstantCake, a 120 gig Western Digital to replace my original 40 gig Western Digital Tivo drive.

I got the image to bake (tcd230040) just fine, and then I installed in Tivo, did an immediate Clear and Delete Everything, then guided setup.

I was fine for a while, about 8 hours, then while trying to watch live TV, the video just started stuttering w/ a block-ish effect. It would eventually catch up, then stutter again. Pressing the Tivo button was also effected, sometimes it would bring up the menu, other times it wouldn't.

I tried a reboot, but now I'm just getting stuck on the welcome screens.

I'm pretty sure the drive is fine, I'm using the original IDE cable in the tivo.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a bad drive, or a bad IDE cable. I'd to my best to turn that "pretty sure" into a "definite" by running the manufacturer's diagnostics on that hard drive.
