I have had the PTVupgrade installed for about 3 days. Today, it has been rebooting about every 15 mintues. I have an RCA DVR80. Here are the last few lines of /var/log/tverr.

Jan 1 19:44:23 (none) ApgWriter[149]: Tmk Fatal Error: Thread ApgWriter <149> died due to signal -2

Jan 1 19:44:23 (none) ApgWriter[149]: Invoking rule 834: rebooting system

Any ideas? Thanks!

Can you provide more info about the kit you've installed? Perhaps an order number so we can look up your order?

You should probably check for loose connections inside your unit; its also possible you have a bad hard drive (in which case you need a GetWell kit), but I can't tell from the information we have so far.

It was a gift, so I don't have the order number. It was this one http://www.ptvupgrade.com/db/upgrade/category/products/product_detail_html?product_id=159 for a RCA/DirecTV Series 2 DVR80.

Are there any logs I can give to you that would help?

Thanks.

Ok, well my guess is that something is loose. I would open the unit back up and ensure that all cables are tight and that you didn't dislodge any of the internal white ribbon cables inside the unit which might be causing a problem. It is also possible that you have a defective hard drive.

Another thing you might check is the connection of your USB ethernet adapter (you are using a USB 2.0 device that we supplied, yes? If not, what are you using?); In fact, you might try to disconnect it and let the unit run without a network connection to see if its presense is part of the problem.

I replaced the stock Tivo IDE cable with IDE cable that came with the PTVupgrade kit. It has been working fine ever since that. Will it not work with the stock cable, or was my stock IDE cable dead?

Thanks for your help!!

Should have worked with your original cable, but it sounds like it was bad or damaged. That's why we provide a cable with our kits... glad all is well!
