Hello Hello...

I have a Phillips HDR112 that was having trouble, so I decided to try my hand at Instant Cake. Following the directions carefully seemed to be no trouble at all, and had managed to get trhough it in no time. (40 gig A, 120 gig B)

After hooking up the drives in the Tivo, and powering up, I don't get past the first screen (just a few moments...) So I came here and read about setting the drives to Cable Select. Tried that, no joy. After some more futzing I went back and rebaked, rehooked and still the same.

What's next? Any suggestions? Try a single-drive bake and see what happens?

Thanks!

Did you try this yet?

http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/thread/11010/

you might want to try this first:

Boot your InstantCake CD as you normally would and then when the InstantCake script begins, hit "ctrl-c" to interrupt it.

Then type the following:

/mfstools-2.0/mfstool restore -x -p -b -s 127 -zi /cdrom/.images/000001 /dev/hdc

Or use the step-by-step instructions in the first link provided.

More details on the latter reference here:

I rebooted from another PC and all is well.... It's a pity that this particular machine won't work easily. I had to cannibalize my good home pc, when I thought I had a perfectly workable dinosaur platform for future Tivo projects.

Aside from the initial trouble, the response with a solution was amazingly fast. And the ultimate result seems perfect. (one reboot when Tivo hung during a fast forward.)

Thanks so much.

glad it worked; sorry it didn't work the first time. i know it seems from the posts on this forum that lots of people have a problem; in actuality, most don't, but the problems end up posted here -- good to know you got things going.
