I have a ptvupgrade-installed series-1 DirecTiVo (Sony SAT-T60)
running 3.1.0c2-01-1-011 . installation was done 3 months ago.

What is the cleanest way to turn off scrambling for new recordings?

with "DVRchive Client Tools version 1.2" I can extract ty files, but
trying to converting them to anything watchable gives the message:
Mux'ing (with cuts): c:\cygwin\home\stivo\C.ty
Sorry... Failed to get the first 10 initial chunks...
Have to have at least that many to start the analysis phase...

DiffTime = 0.000000 (0) == 0.000000 Minutes

total = 1310720 (1 MB)

Done with 'c:\cygwin\home\stivo\C.ty'..
I presume this means that all the existing recording is encrypted, and
to decode that I'll need to find unscramble.o from somewhere?

Then all the hard stuff has already been done for you; just keep playing with the "client" piece - perhaps save as .mpg rather than ty files. You don't need to mess with any of the software on the TiVo-side
