I have exactly the same problem as this thread...
http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/thread/10756/
In fact, it is exactly the same model... a Phillips DSR6000R01.
I started by doing the standard Instant Cake script. It worked with no errors building a single drive Tivo with a 120GB drive. I put it in the Tivo and it never got beyond the Welcome, Powering Up screen. I checked the jumper and it was set as a master. This is a Maxtor and has no single jumper setting.
Next I did the process described in this thread...
http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/thread/null/
I also assumed that I needed to run the icing script after doing the manual process above with byteswapping forced off. The icing script failed trying to find the active partition. When I run the command...
/.flash/edit_bootparms hdc -r
I get an error message...
invalid signature 0x1492 on /dev/hdc
Do you have any idea what I could try now? Do I need to run the icing process after running the manual restore with byteswapping forced off? I assumed that I would.

PS: I purchased my copy of InstantCake from 9th Tee.

Ok, I have this working. None of the great information on this forum worked for me so, unfortunately, my success will probably not help many others. I did the Instant Cake process on three different PCs. The last one worked and it was a standard automated script that finally worked. Didn't have to mess with byteswapping or anything. Glad that machine worked as I doubt any of the others that I have would recognize a 120GB drive or they were laptops.
