No one acually answers your questions here. The PTV upgrade people just point you here to get you off their back. They only want your money -- for a product that someone else developed.
Newbie here,
I just purchased a 200 bg drive to upgrade my standalone Series-1 Philips Tivo. I will be adding this as a second drive to the existing 10 gb drive. I've never worked on a Tivo before, so pardon my ignorance. Other than a bracket and a torx 10 screwdriver...what other accessories are needed to add an additional drive? Would I need a second power connector and/or gray IDE ribbon?
Also would the InstantCake program be used to get past the 137 gb limit on Tivos???

Consider backing that statement up before I delete your post, user account and block your IP address. Tell me, who was the first to offer an upgrade kit, or professionally upgraded TiVo?

Take my advice... don't add the drive to your existing drive (which is probably 13.7GB). If you want to do it, use BlessTiVo (take a look at tivocommunity.com for lots of information on how to use BlessTiVo) and plan on using only 137GB of that drive. Or use InstantCake to simply turn that 200GB drive into a large replacement drive, and toss the one currently in your unit.
If preserving the stuff on your existing drive is important to you, you can make a backup and restore it onto your new drive; again, use tivocommunity.com for links to the how-tos on doing such a thing; prepare to do your reading and spend some time doing the research before you take your TiVo apart.
