Hello,

My original HD no longer works because I had previously upgraded my HDR31202 with a second drive, which was later removed and put into my new Directv TIVO.

I've recently found a need for the old TIVO and have attemted to reboot it with the original TIVO drive. I keep getting the "Almost There" message and the constant reboots. Other TIVO experts have told me its because the second drive is gone and TIVO is looking for it.

That's where InstantCake comes in. I was referred here, and bought the software. I also bought a new drive (20GB) from CompUSA. InstantCake recognized the drive and it appears everything was loaded properly because I got the "Congrats" message. I put the 20GB drive into my TIVO, and nothing happened. I see the "green light" on the front, but I never see any messages from TIVO. I have a feeling that the HDR31202 is looking for the same size drive as the original (30 GB), or larger.

So I've spent a considerable amount of time today trying to figure out why I can't use the original TIVO drive. I would like to format the drive clean, but it appears the drive is showing up as 9.2 GB instead of the full 30. I receive a message from InstantCake that the drive is not large enough.

I've downloaded the 'qunlock' utility and attempted that, but the drive still shows up as 9.2 GB.

What am I doing wrong? Why won't the whole drive show up? Is there an alternative method for me to clean the 30GB and then run InstantCake to restore TIVO?

I would appreciate any guidance you can give me. I'm sincerely frustrated and going to bed! :D

Thanks,
Scott

Hi there,

Thanks for pointing the above thread out. If you wouldn't have provided this, I wouldn't have found it. It appears what I can view on the forums is limited. The URL you've provided works, but when I try to find this thread in the forums I don't see it listed. I'm thinking it may be an "archived" entry that I wouldn't have seen if I were attempting to find a solution on my own.

Nevertheless, I appreciate the visibility to this thread. I'll post back later tonight on whether or not this fixed things for me.

Take it easy!

Regards,
Scott

Its there.. perhaps you over looked it as it may not have been on the first page you are viewing. If I see any trends here, I will make the thread 'sticky' so it stays at the top of the tech support forum.

Thx,
Lou
