Sounds like you don't have your CD-ROM hooked up as the correct device (primary slave)...

I am getting a similar error msg.... when in the PTVnet utility, I'm asked to go ahead and swap the instantcake cd into the drive and press -y- to continue, which I do... then I get cd-rom not properly mounted...or something similar, but later I get "/cdrom/.images/000001: No such file or directory"

Now one would think that, as mentioned above, my cdrom is not mounted as the primary slave properly, but the way that I have the jumpers set is the only way that I have been able to get it to boot the PTVnet disk upon primary boot up.  Also, I noticed that the subdirectory mentioned above is actually named "_images" instead of ".images" as the PTVnet utility apparently looks for....I don't believe a subdirectory can actually have a period in the name.

Can anyone help with these two issues?  CdRom not mounted properly, and Instantcake subdirectory named "_images" instead of ".images"   ?

Thanks

Not sure about the ".images" vs. "_images" thing, but basically, I think my CDrom is not quick enough for the PTVnet software utility- when you are going from PTVnet to Instantcake- my drive is just too slow- and PTVnet thinks that it is not responding...so I baked my cake with Instantcake by itself and plan to load it up into my dtv box, clear & delete everything...get it going for a week or two until I get the proper networking hdwe that I need, then re-visit PTVnet utility later.

I'm having EXACTLY the same problem with getting InstantCake Special Edition ("ISE") to configure my 2 Seagate 250GB hard drives ONLY when running PTVnetHD first and inserting the ISE CD.  When I ONLY run ISE by itself on these 2 drives, PTVnetHD works PERFECTLY.  Also, when I ran PTVnetHD on ONE of these "raw" drives when it first came out of the box, it worked perfectly.

I would REALLY appreciate your help on this problem ASAP so I can get my HR10-250 working properly and get some value for the $39.98 I paid for these two download.

COMPUTER:

- Seagate Barracuda ATD 250GB HDs (ST3250623A)

- NEC CD/DVD drives onSECONDARY IDE cable (booting off of SLAVE CD drive and will NOT boot unless BOTH CD/DVD drives are connected

Have you tried to take one of the cd/dvd drives off line totally, swapping the remaining one to the primary ide plug, then hooking up the new hd's on the secondary ide plug/cable?  You will need to tell the bios to forget trying to boot off of the hard drive and/or floppy, but just boot from the cdrom.

If it boots up on the ptvnet utility, look through the comments that appear on screen to see how the Dell is seeing the various hardware (hda, hdc etc), then pay close attention to answering the questions that appear on screen- that is, how is the cd setup and how are the drives set, etc...

Good luck!
