I am interested in getting Instant Cake for my TCD24004A Tivo series 2 box. However, I have read about no networking support for series 2. So before I buy I have a question.

I currently use the linksys wusb11 USB to WiFi (802.11b) adaptor on my tivo and my cable broadband access. I do not have a phone line connected to the tivo.

So if I instantcake the unit, will that configuration still work? I will not be able to wire a phone line to it (other than temporary setup), nor will I want to. (I am not sure if dial-up modems even work over Vonage VoIP)

So if the answer is "no with the stock upgrade," is it possible to get the networking working again after caking the unit? If the answer to this is yes, then be specific as to the instructions as to how to do that. I need to know those details before I commit to a purchase.

Thanks,
potential customer

I don't understand where you read about no networking for Series 2? I have the exact unit you have, and it's connected with HMO via/USB-Ethernet wireless adaptor (D-Link DWL-122). If you mean, would you have to reconnect a landline for setup, I'm not sure. Some have reported being able to do GS without a landline. Not sure if InstantCake preserves your original setup. But I know that you can enable HMO after InstantCake-ing.

InstantCake does not preserve your original setup because it installs a fresh version of the software on your drive(s). It should not affect how you go through guided setup, whatever you are using now to dial out, you should be able to set that up again and use it as you are using it now.

Thanks for the clarification. I realized that was the case this morning (when I had a fresher head :D )
