Secondly, and really sorry if this was mentioned somewhere before (I tried to search for this topic and couldn't find it) I just made it easy on myself and had you do the installation of hard drive and cache card. However I'm trying to edit the modules in the tivoweb/modules directory and am getting the error that it's a read only filesystem. So I tried to chmod both the modules directory and the root ptvupgrade directory and get the same error.
How do I make the modules directory writable or is there a way to configure an alternate modules directory in the /var directory?

So I got around to checking out my second question. Obvious when I thought about it, root is ro in the /etc/fstab file, /var is the only rw filesystem. Since the filesystem read only, I can't edit the fstab. Does linix in su mode allow you to mount a filesystem rw when it's already mounted ro (i.e. issue a mount command to override the mount in the fstab?) Is there some other way I can redirect the tivoweb search for the /modules directory so that I can put it under /var ? Or am I going to have to remove the drive from the Tivo and mount it on a PC to fix it?

Sorry for not responding to these sooner -- first of all, we relocated our servers last week, hence the downtime and the error messages. Obviously you've found the forum, which is the correct place for this support.

As for writing to your root filesystem...

telnet to your TiVo and type "rootwrite" and you will have write-access... "rootread" will make the partition read-only again...
