Just used instantcake to format new seagate drive (ST3120026A 120GB).
The upgrade proceeded to "depower computer don't forget to erase and restart" (something close to that). Installed in Sony 2000 and had the similar problem as sooner1 (You'r recorder is starting up please wait). The drive initially shows a sign of responding, but does not boot the TIVO

Sooner's issue was a drive compatibility issue - had nothing to do with InstantCake, it had to do with that particular drive working in your TiVo as an upgraded disk; have you tried a different hard drive?

Another Drive

Yes, originally I had two drives in the TIVO and wanted to convert it back to a single drive unit. Ocasionally the TIVO would freeze and have to be restarted (worked normally 99% of the time). The two drives were a Samsung SU1204H (master) and Maxtor 4D080H4 (slave). I formatted the previously working Samsung drive as a single drive with instantcake with the same results as I had using the new Seagate drive (TIVO waiting to start message, but no boot).

Could be jumper settings, a loose power cable, a loose IDE cable, a broken TiVo. If the drive was working before, and the InstantCake script completed without errors, then the problem is something specific about your configuration or the hardware you are using.

Instant cake continuued

Hi
I have an old TIVO backup drive (Maxtor 4D080H4) with version 2.5 software. It works perfectly. I have an identical Maxtor drive I initialized with instantcake, recieved the "Congratulations! Software installed" message and installed it in the TIVO - it freezes with the message "Your recorder is starting up please wait a moment. This must be a software problem. Is it possible that the software on the CD is for an other modle TIVO? It has handwritten on the disk SVR 2000.
