this was written in response to a post in the hardware section and copied here.

Dear Big:

I think this is the best TIVO site for hackers since sliced bread.

About a year ago (or so) PTV Upgrade changed the forum structure.

It used to be an 'all threads in one big file' and now it's divided into three sections, Software, Hardware, and Archived.

Having the board divided has the advantage of making each section smaller, but the disadvantage of making it harder for people to reply to things they know about but won't read 'cause they are in the wrong section.

For instance, If I would like help on software, I will go to the software section, read through, then maybe post a question. After that, I will probably leave and go back to my day job (can't quit that.)

I may very well have answers to some of the hardware questions and probably would have answered them if I stumbled across them, (it is a simple click) but, since I went to the software section, I probably won't even take the time to read through the hardware stuff so the hardware people loose out on my knowledge.

I don't mind helping when I can, I would even like to help, but I don't want to work too hard searching for people so I can help.

As a result, we both loose, as I wont get the benefit of other peoples knowledge ether.

I have thought about posting my questions in both sections and may do so in the future (it is a simple cut and paste) but that would defeat the purpose of the board hosts.

I hope this doesn't sound arrogant, it's just I'm rather busy and after all, TIVO is a somewhat low priority in most peoples lives.

Mark.
