Anything is possible, its just a matter of time and money.
Having said that, it would be great to do that. Because of the structure of MPEG files, you can really only quickly edit at the GOP packet, and I'm not sure how long Tivo goes between GOP packets. To cut and edit at the frame level would require a bit more work, because to start a sequence in the middle of a GOP means that you would have to decode the I, P and B frames first. This is because the I frame is a complete frame, and the B frame is a differential frame, based on the previous frame.
I presume you are talking about having the edit facilities on the PC, such that the show is extracted and editted at the same time? I'd need the code for an MPEG decoder that also draws on the screen using DirectX.
I think everyone can agree that the advanced on the tivo tools have been awesome and alot of people are archiving their favorite shows or movies. I think one of the main things we hate to deal with is cutting out commercials from the mpeg stream.
I have been wondering latley if its possible while still in .ty form to be able to pull up a small video preview and hit some in and out points or something that would desginate cut out areas (commercials) and then use some form of modified ty convert to only take those locations and convert them to the mpeg file?
doing this at this stage might resolve any sync issues and prob cut down the time it takes to go though all the step current for cutting out commercials.
thoughts ? anyone?
