Personally, I run XP Pro on both of my computers that I use for extraction purposes and have not had problems with either one when the app exits. I use both WinDVD and PowerDVD on my system with an Intel 815EEAL motherboard (with video on board) and have never had crashes like you describe.
Since this happens with several other apps for you, what codec are you using for MPEG? Are you using WinDVD, PowerDVD, or some other well known player? How about the video card - perhaps there might be something about the video card driver that is causing problems with DirectX
I too have had this problem with TiVoApp and several other programs (Ulead DVDit, Adobe Premiere, Roxio VideoPack) when doing anything related to re-encoding video/audio, even without TiVo and TiVoApp in the picture (no pun intended!). They all seem to be able to complete their task (I end up with a usable product) but then crash during end-of-task processing.
I therefore wonder if XP is the issue here. It's still in pre-Service Pack 1 status and therefore new enough to potentially be causing all these perceived problems with TiVoApp.
