I finally got TivoNet to work, Thanks to Tony Hoyle, I was using the wrong address to test ping the Tivo. The Tivo address is 192.168.1.99 not 192.168.1.0. Must have been working all along. Sometimes the simple things....

Anyway, I installed Gary's TivoApp on my Win98 and sent over ExtractStream, nc, ShowList.tcl, and util.itcl.

At first, TivoApp brought up the Telnet window and complained about not being able to find ShowList.tcl.

I moved all the Tivo(app) files to /hack/bin (it is already part of my path) and walla, Telnet now starts ShowList.tcl, pauses for a few seconds then a Bash prompt returns.

However, there is no information in the 'Now Showing' window.

This is the output from ShowList.tcl

bash-2.02# ShowList.tcl
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<ShowList>
</ShowList>
bash-2.02#

There are programs in the "Now Showing" window on the Tivo but the Tivo says there is no show information (titles actors etc..) I can live with that.

When I first got my Tivo, I had to hook to a phone and let it do it's thing 'cause Tivo would not let me do otherwise. I got my complementary month of show info then (as expected) the information is past and not there anymore.

I have not paid for a subscription and don't want to. I can still do manual recordings and actually prefer to do so because I can set the recorder to come on 5 minutes before and after the actual show, but, of course, have no show info for the recordings.

Might this be the reason ShowList.tcl outputs nothing?

Could someone please post the output from their ShowList.tcl so as I may verify this. I might even take a crack at fixing it

Thanks, Mark

P.S. Thanks to Gary for the reply on extract (that helped) and Hichhiker for helping to fix the Glossary (again, more help). Someday I would like to publish a book on all I learned and went through during this project. I've learned more about Linux in the past months just working on Tivo than I have in all my entire life of programming.

Do not know about TivoAPP, have not tried it yet, but fyi:

You can pad the recording before/after the show with subscription/season passes/etc with the latest versions of the software.

Also, from what I understand, if you have TivoNet installed, Tivo will try to make the scheduled call over the internet, which means that if you are trying to avoid the "call", make sure you do not set a default route for it to get to internel.
