After reading this board, and others floating around (DealDatabase, ExtractStream forum) for a week or two, and making multiple coasters, and buying yet another DVD player, I've finally succeded in creating an SVCD from an extracted Tivo show.
Thanks to each of you who has taken the time to create Apps (TivoApp, ExtractStream, SplitStream, etc) and put up web pages with thoughtful explanations and detail.
My path to SVCD-nirvana was, seemingly, a little shorter than most:
1: Extract a stream as a raw .ty using TivoApp V2.
2: Split the .ty into .m2v and .m2a files, using splitstream. (Side note: I still haven't figured out what to do with the bad chunks created - ignore them? Run them thru splitstream again?)
3: Convert the .m2v file into a .d2v file using DVD2AVI.
4: Using FreeAmp (or WinAmp, or whatever) , convert the .m2a into .wav.
5: With the (almost) newest version of TMPGenc (2.53), ->Use The Wizard<- to create an SVCD, with the .d2v as video source and .wav file as the audio. No sync problems at all - at least yet. Don't let your pride fool you! It's OKAY to use the Wizards, some times, even if you feel a little... cheapened. :-)
6: When you've created an SVCD file, use TMPGenc's Merge & Cut features to trim commercials. (Being sure to make sure that MPEG-2 Super VCD (VBR) is selected as the type of video. I know I won't make that mistake .. um .. again.)
7: Use VCDImager (and, if you wish, VCDImagerGUI) To create a bin/cue file.
8: Use Nero to create your SVCD. RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO CREATE THE SVCD WITH NERO. JUST DON'T DO IT. It'll all end in tears if you do.
9: Pop the minty-fresh media into your Apex AD-1500 and enjoy. At least, I did.
Thanks again, all. If you've seen something in the above list that's just too out of whack and should be corrected, please feel free. As usual, this seems to work for me, and your mileage may vary. See dealer for details. #include <std_disclaim.h>. It is dark, and you are likely to be eaten by a grue.
