Some (it seems to me many) telnet clients crash the Tivo telnet deamon.

Try restarting your Tivo to get the deamon up and running again and try connecting over Hyperterminal (Windowz). In the connections dialogue choose TCP/IP and configure it to your Tivo's IP address.

This is a very frustrating bug. It would be nice to see it fixed.

It has been fixed. Go to
jack's web page
download tnlited-binary-2.0.tar.gz and
copy it to /sbin on the Tivo.
Jack's tnlited works without crashing on
all the telnet clients I've tried.

I noticed specifically that the built in telnet in windows crashes it (I think it's attempting to do some authentication scheme)
but Tera Term (on windows works for me)

Also of note (for some): use of the perl Net::Telnet module crashes tnlited but expect does not. Will try the new binary and see if my results change.

WARNING!

The new command line flags with the new tnlited are incompatible with what's in your rc.sysinit file if you used the tivonet floppy. Make sure you fix 'em before rebooting!

Forgot to mention that -
Jack's tnlited has no command line
flags. Just put a single line:
tnlited
at the end of rc.sysinit.

any clue if CRT or Secure CRT works?

i've been using 3.4 secureCRT with no problem (SW version 2.0 though). ATTENTION DTiVo doesn't handle 2.5 and tivonet or mods yet. So beware of upgrading.

It looks like progress is being made on that front though.

I've read elsewhere that earlier versions of secureCRT do not work...
