make sure you have your export set right

export VIDEO_OUT=/var/tmp/tivo/test1.mv2

for example.. same goes with the audio..

has to have a file name.

i use to see that error when i ran ExtractStream without having a good connection to a remote drive. (via samba or nfs)

cd to the mounted directory and do a ls to make sure that you have a good connection.

drop a file or two in your mounted directory just to have something to "see" there.

Also , if your using samba make sure your windows shares are shared READ/WRITE. At least that fixed my problem.
