You may have the right to say that Jensen & Jared are disappointing their fans by NOT appearing at ComicCON, but you should also be gracious enough to acknowledge that both Jensen & Jared have appeared at many, many conventions in the last 12 months. These often frenetic conventions have taken place on three continents and Jensen & Jared have delighted many people by their willingness to meet fans of the show, but they also deserve a little time to have a social life, see their families and take the time out for a vacation.I don't know of any other show that consists of just two leads and Jensen & Jared give more of their precious time off than many people realise.Maybe you should write an article praising Jared & Jensen for their commitment to the show and their fans instead of the mean spirited criticism that was directed their way.
About Yesterday's SUPERNATURAL Smack-down
If you’re gonna go down, it might as well be in flames.
Yesterday, we posted an opinion piece taking the SUPERNATURAL leads — Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki — to task for not appearing at the upcoming Comic Con, saying that we believed they owed it to their wildly supportive fan base to show as a way of saying “thank you”.
Well, a whole lot of that fanbase — did we mention how vocal they are? — took us to task. We even received an email from a CW spokesperson labeling the story — and in particular, a major mistake on our part — “not cool.”
First, let’s set the record straight: Although we said in the original item that the stars had not been at past Comic Cons, that was without question inaccurate. As the spokesperson reminded us, “both jared and Jensen were there last year and Jensen was there the year before.” Both have also attended numerous other events at which their adoring public were given the chance to show their love. “The boys are there for their fans,” continued the CW rep.
For that error, we are truly and humbly sorry.
We do, however, stand by our original ascertation that given that Comic Con is one of the biggest events dedicated to the genre, the pair should be putting in an appearance. The spokesperson’s email did not mention scheduling conflicts or, for that matter, offer up any other reason for them not being in attendance.
Again, for the inaccuracies in the piece, we are obviously truly sorry. Obviously, we take our credibility and the truth you put in us very seriously.
We do not, however, feel the need to apologize for the opinions expressed in that post or, for that matter, any other. It’s important to remember that there is a difference between news items and opinion pieces. A vast majority of what is posted here at thetvaddict.com by our various contributors are opinion pieces. The great things about opinions is that everybody has ’em, and they’re never, ever wrong. You may not agree with someone’s opinion, but that doesn’t make it invalid or incorrect, simply different from the stance you take.
We both welcome and love the feedback our readers give via the comments section. Let’s face it: If we didn’t want people to read and respond to our thoughts, we’d put them in a diary. And if we didn’t want feedback, we’d eliminate the “comments” option all together.
We’re not perfect, and we’ll choke down a slice or two of humble pie when circumstances slap it down on our plate. When we’re wrong, we’ll admit it. In this case, some of our facts were wrong. The sentiment, however, was an opinion we stand by while at the same time opening the floodgates to welcome yours.
Like the cast of SUPERNATURAL or any other show, we’d be nothing without you. ![]()

Maybe the spokesperson didn't mention any scheduling conflicts because they figured you'd be smart enough to make that guess on your own.
Sorry but still disagree with you strongly. If Jensen attended the last 2 years and Jared last year, why would you assume they have a problem coming this year unless they had something else going on.
Even if they have no conficts with schedules do you think it may be possible that they have something personal going on that they need to attend to?
Kripke, the creator of the show will be there, along with two other high ranking staff, and two of its major co-stars. The show is well represented.
Okay, you state that you are truly sorry for not mentioning in your previous article that the boys do support fans by attending conventions and fan events but you stand by your opinion that the boys don't support their fans by going not to this convention. Can you explain that to me, I'm a little confused.
So basically, you're entitled to hold up so-called 'facts' to endorse your opinions, but when these are proven to be incorrect, you don't think you need to re-evaluate your opinion at all?
Well, congratulations on your overwhelming sense of ignorant entitlement.
You are right about one thing - every idiot is entitled to express their opinion and expose their idiocy for the world to see. Happens every day and in every way.
But it takes real integrity and a certain amount of courage to apologise for insulting people on the basis of incorrect 'facts'.
You insulted the personal characters the actors involved by insinuating that they were neglecting their fans out of laziness, arrogance or 'fear' of those fans. You backed this insinuation up with the wrong assumption that they'd never attended this particular event before. Your headline was not 'Supernatural stars should go to Comic Con no matter what other commitments they have! (and that's just our opinion FYI)', it was 'Supernatural stars diss fans'. It would seem to me that you were in fact foisting your own rudeness, arrogance and sense of entitlement on Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. Interesting case of transference there, actually.
It amuses me that you say that your credibility is important to you. Until you are willing to put on you Big-Boy/Girl Pants and properly apologise for the poorly thought out, unresearched and unnecessarily insulting 'opinion piece' that you published, your credibility is gonna be around about zilch.
And your attempt to suck up to readers with your final comment that 'Like the cast of SUPERNATURAL or any other show, we'd be nothing without you' is really unbelievable.
It clearly shows that you truly have no shame.
And no clue.
I seriously want a retract on the entire article, well blog... The article had more than a few things wrong with it, and they owe the fandom a huge apology for insulting the fan base. We are not made up of tweens, we are made up of WOMEN and Young Men, yes there are some teens but the ones I do know are more mature and well rounded than that person who wrote the blog.
But the fact is this wasn't an apology it was an Ooops we made a mistake and got caught with our pants down, but don't really want to own up to it. If you were serious about your apology, you would retract the entire blog.
Look, you are entitled to your personal opinion and so are we. We don't agree at all with your opinion. Mostly, your opinion seems to be based on spite or something akin to it, and I wonder why? These two guys and the whole production are always sooo available, so gracious so uniquely humble that it leads me to believe you may have a personal grudge there. But...that is only my personal opinion of course. Retract, don't retract, you are free to do as you please but, so are we. We stand by our guys.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that is a backhanded appology? and a damn patronising one too. It started out quite promising but went rapidly downhill. Yes, Comic Con is one of the biggest of it's genre, but I bet they don't slate every Actor who doesn't put in an appearance EVERY year! The original article wasn't just an opinion, it was a verbal attack on two, very much loved and respected Artists. I'm all for democracy, (I posted previously asking that we cut the TV Bud some slack .... tho I RETRACT that now) and I don't mind anyone stating an opinion, but if it's delivered in such an agressive tone, then don't complain when it comes back and bites you on your arogant ass.
CW (well done to whoever notified them of this topic btw) don't have to explain, or justify, how any one or two Actors spend their free time. They are not going, simple as. As several people have pointed out, the timing sucks regarding filming schedules etc, this is the most obviouse reason I suspect. Certainly not because they are too stuck up their own arses to attend or behave in a more gracious manner ... no... they leave that to certain other individuals.
When Jensen was at Asylum1, 2 years ago, he was jumped on by an overzealous bunnyboiler, she was finally pinned to a wall to get her off of him, it shook him up real bad but he carried on like the trouper he is, and guess what else?? He came back this year!! So, how can anyone accuse him of personally disrespecting Fans by snubbing Comic Con? *shakes her head in bewilderment*
Seriously Guys, you are welcome to your opinion, but maybe you'd better word it a bit differently, or post it on MySpace where it can be lost in Cyberdom and cause no bother.
Posting your opinion is one thing. What I take issue with is the assertion that it is the opinion the fandom as opposed to one self entitled fan. Before you try and wriggle out of it, why say and I quote "If anyone owes their fandom a thank you for five seasons of continuous employment" if you were not claiming to do so
The cast and crew of SPN show the fandom their appreciation every day with everything from the shoutouts on the show, the postcards campaign and their attendence at several conventions. Comic Con is just one event and acting as though Supernatural is being poorly represented without Jared and Jensen is ridiculous - you have the creator, two of the principal writers and two major characters appearing. The only obligation the hardworking cast and crew have is to put on the very best show they can. That's it - anything else is just gravy. They are under no obligation whatsoever to justify themselves to you or have to explain themselves because frankly, your opinion doesn't matter in the decision making process.
You have every right to assert your opinion. However, if you are asserting an opinion without getting the full facts first, or worse, by assuming that people have a certain attitude because of the general perception of people who work in their industry, that makes you ignorant. Your story was inflammatory and irresponsible, and while it's hardly about something that's going to cause major political upheaval, it is rampantly unfair to assume that these people are in any way shunning their fans.
These guys work crazy hours filming in a foreign country, they appear at far more conventions and put up with far more asinine fan behavior than most actors would. Even badly organized conventions. At one recent convention, the organizers over-sold autograph tickets and rather than having any fan go away disappointed, Jensen stayed longer than he had agreed to in order to sign the autographs for everyone. That is not a person who is not supportive of their fans.
You are entitled to your opinion. We are entitled to ours. Ours is based on the prior observed behavior of these two people, witnessed first-hand by many of us. What is yours based on?

Well, we all know what convention we are talking about here. This last May, just to be more specific. And yeah the guys (specially Jensen) were almost "heroic" in the effort to save people from disappointment. And by the end of the run he was totally wrecked, but gracious and generous as always. So... please do not talk about things you probably know nothing about - talking to the writer of the article here of course - Obviously.
Ahh, apologizing without an actual apology. Why even bother? Jared and Jensen work extremely hard on Supernatural and even if they aren't attending ComicCon because they DON'T WANT TO it is still very much in their right to do so. They are humans after all, not your monkeys.
Crypto Said:
"So... please do not talk about things you probably know nothing about - talking to the writer of the article here of course - Obviously."
Understood, and agreed.
I'm sure many others have given their opinions, but this is ridiculous. What makes ComicCon any worthier than any other con? Personally, I'd rather they go to the Supernatural-dedicated cons than a big, general con. They can't make it to every con in existence, both for scheduling reasons and for sheer number, and people will have differing opinions on what ones are
This is still so much crap. As the others have said, these boys work extremely hard. They don't owe anything. I'm certain that they are working and I'm certain that the rep didn't need to say that they were or not. Do you have any idea how many hours these guys work? Do you have any idea how many cons that they attend? So what if they don't show at Comic Con? Big freaking deal. Just because they don't does not mean that this is dissing the fan base. This half apology is not good enough by any means.
No one has said Jensen and Jared were asked to come. Collins and the Castiel story seem to be the only thing the CW and the producers/writers want to promote anymore. Makes perfect sense to send him and keep the old stars of the series away--they would just be a distraction from the new star of the series.

It makes perfect sense given that direction to send only Collins. The old stars of the series would be a distraction from the new direction of the series. How about asking CW if Jared and Jensen were invited to attend--I'll bet they were not.
Ok but in this CASE I think you are messing with the wrong guys!
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are really really kind and nice guys and any fan that have met them could tell you. In the last season they were in like 5 CONS
Chicago Con, in Los Angeles, in Australia, in England and i missing one, but they were there just for the fans answering all kind of questions.
They are filming in Canada for 10 months and they have 2 months of vacations and in their vacations they went to one or two cons, Could you tell me what other actors do that?
And maybe they dont need to attend to this Comic-con because in the Comic-con talk about what is comming to this new season and Jared and Jernsen have been telling that the writers almost dont tell to them anything about what is comming until they get the script, then maybe they dont necesarily need to be there.
*Sorry for my bad english, it's not my mother tongue
Eric Kripke openly said at the beginning of the panel that Jared and Jensen were not there because they were in Vancouver shooting.
That's good enough for me.
