I'm going to try something new
I've been struggling to maintain this blog because I have more than one. So, in the interests of finally tackling the commitment, I'm going to consolidate and blog one time only. So, you'll get sci-fi news here but you'll also be subjected to some more of the mundane ramblings of my earthly life.
August has been a particularlly rough month for the sci-fi fans out there. The Dresden Files has, in fact, been axed. It wasn't what I'd call the strongest show out there but at the very least, it did have promise. The recent verdict is in on another sci-fi show Painkiller Jane, sorry folks, it's gone too. Not that I'm all *that* sorry as it was really just that bad.
Flash Gordon premiered last Friday and didn't impress me much. I moaned to my husband that the dialogue was stilted and he argued, "But that's classic Flash Gordon!" Whatever. This isn't the 60's anymore and if this show is going to make it, it'll have to do better than that. Sadly, with only a 1.5 premiere, I doubt it will.
If you're a fan of Eureka, it's doing well, and hopefully will continue to do well. The September premiere of Stargate Atlantis continues to loom closer and closer and for those of you eagerly waiting, try to get the word out. From an inside source, the news from the network is that a 5th season depends on the late numbers for season 3 and the early numbers for season 4.
Being a sci-fi fan at times can be frustrating. It seems like our shows are always on the line, and I don't think I'll ever figure out how the ratings actually work anymore. I've heard if you have TiVo you still have to watch it straight through to count. I've heard if you aren't a Neilson family, you don't count, period. Frankly, the bottom line is that there's only two things I can do as a fan of a show struggling in the ratings: spread the word and watch. So, that's what I do.
In other news, this has been an expensive day for me. $230 for my oldest son's new pair of glasses at the opticians. $49 for a wall map of the USA, one set of percent cubes and one set of decimal cubes at the school supply store. $342 at Wal Mart (aka wally hell) for a globe, four baskets, four lap desks, three pairs of boys pants, three boys shirts, two packages of boys undies -- "1 of boxers, Mom, and 1 regular!" -- one package of socks for 13 year old son, aka, BIG FOOT, one step stool for 9 year old who is sick and tired of being unable to reach 1/2 of the items in the kitchen, assorted notebooks *and* two packages of cube world because I have SUCKER written plainly across my forehead.
I finished up by spending another $111 at Staples. Four packages of prismacolor pencils, three packages of kneaded erasers (what IS a kneaded eraser, I mean, we're not exactly talking bread here), two packages of fine black marking pens, three 1 1/2 inch three ring binders and one Franklin electronic dictionary and thesaurus (and a partridge in a pear tree...oops, not that time of year, is it?).
Back to school really means back to bankruptcy, and there's my dose of consipracy theory for the day.
