Back From the Dead

Okay, not really, because real life just isn't as cool as sci-fi where that can happen. I was sidelined by something as innocuous as the science fair for four kids (two of whom managed to win Superior and earn medals, so yay, science fiction geeks in training here!) but now that madness is over we can press on with the fun.

The finales have started, and Heroes is really winding up. I missed last night's episode but it's waiting on my DVR for me so once I get that watched I'll post my thoughts. The last two episodes have been a little slow for me, building up for the main event.

Spiderman 3 made its big debut and I've gotten mixed feedback from friends. Some said it was great, a couple said, "Not so much, but okay," and the good news is no one said, "That was awful!" which means at the very least, going shouldn't be a waste of money. My boys are hounding me to take them so I guess we'll be making our way to the theater this weekend. I have to admit I'm not a big Spidey fan, but one of my kids has always been, so I suck it up and go. Kind of like what I'll be doing this summer with the big Simpson's movie.

Supernatural aired part one of their two part super season finale, All Hell Breaks Loose. There was a lot of groundwork to lay in part one so it moved a little slow in parts, but there were plenty of surprises and gut-wrenching moments. One thing this show does extremely well is build likable guest characters. I liked Ava and I liked Andy. When Ava was revealed to have gone all dark side and killed Andy I might've whimpered, "Not Andy!" And then the ending...oh, my, the cliffhanger ending. Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) has mentioned in interviews that this was one of the most daunting episodes for him to film and I know he was submitted for consideration of an Emmy -- Jensen, I hope you get the nomination because you deserve it, there were tears in my house! -- so be prepared to feel the pain in the upcoming part two this Thursday, 9pm ET on the CW.

Fridays continued with the two Stargate powerhouses. Bad Guys (SG-1) airs at 8pm ET on Sci-Fi, followed up by The Ark (Atlantis) at 9pm.

TV viewership is down this spring and the ratings are limping along for the sci-fi shows. This isn't great news so if you can, be sure to tune in, especially if you're one of the rare Neilson families that watch sci-fi (because it sure seems like there isn't enough of them!)

For the latest news, rants, and raves on anything and everything Sci-Fi.
