Meet GLEE's Cory Monteith
“You really think the show is going to be a stratospheric hit?” asks Cory Monteith of GLEE, the about-to-be-the-next-big-thing debuting tonight at 9 p.m. on FOX, with a charming modesty that only a guy who was working as a Wal Mart greeter not so long ago could possess. Um, yes, we do. And so does everyone from Entertainment Weekly to the New York Post (who described it as “the most magically delicious show any network has produced in years”). All signs are that Monteith is about to experience the kind of life-altering fame that comes with a starring role on the most buzzed-about show of the season. Just don’t tell him that. “The acting thing is relatively new,” he admits casually, and it’s true that he’s best known for short stints on KAYA and KYLE XY. But it’s a safe bet that by Wednesday morning, there will be... More »

The TV Addict Lends the CW Promotions Department a Hand
Don’t get me wrong, the TV Addict loves the CW. But as we head into week two of the new fall season, we can’t help but notice that the little-network-that-could hasn’t really made much of an effort to remind fans that they’ve got other shows on the air. You know, besides of 90210 and GOSSIP GIRL. So as a public service announcement to fans of quality television everywhere, theTVaddict.com thought we’d help promote the rest of the CW’s schedule [ie. SMALLVILLE, SUPERNATURAL, ONE TREE HILL, EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, THE GAME and tonight’s newest addition PRIVILEGED] by devising a slogan slogan the CW might wish to consider. THE CW: MORE THAN JUST 90210 AND GOSSIP GIRL, NO REALLY. Thoughts? All photos are owned by the The CW Network, LLC. Review: GREY'S ANATOMY Sixth Season Premiere
In a recent interview, ABC Entertainment Group President Stephen McPherson characterized GREY’S ANATOMY as “a show that’s evolving.” Having just watching the sixth-season premiere, which bows Thursday September 24th on ABC at 9PM, all I can say is “Bring on the evolution… stat!” Mama always said “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Fortunately for you, I never really listened, freeing me up to give you my thoughts on the season premiere, titled “Good Mourning.” Picking up pretty much where last May’s finale ended, the episode is basically what you’d expect: One long farewell to George O’Malley. Tears are shed, clothes are torn (apparently, GENERAL HOSPITAL isn’t the only sudsy drama on which people get inexplicably turned on by the death of loved ones) and Bailey has her prerequisite meltdown. (Note to the writers: Having a strong character show their vulnerable side by flipping... More »
Did CBS Miss The Vampire Bandwagon?
Here are five words this TV Addict never expected to write: Perez Hilton has a point. In his recent post titled, ‘Vampires Are In’ the reigning queen of celebrity gossip sights the 3.5 million copies being printed for Stephanie Meyers fourth and final installment of the TWILIGHT series BREAKING DAWN , the upcoming September premiere of Alan Ball’s [SIX FEET UNDER] highly anticipated new HBO series TRUE BLOOD and the TWILIGHT movie set to hit the big screens in December as proof positive that vampires are the new boy wizards. Leading us to wonder aloud — with interest in Vampires seemingly at an all-time high — could CBS have cancelled MOONLIGHT at a worse time? addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fthetvaddict.com%2F2008%2F07%2F10%2Fdid-cbs-miss-the-vampire-bandwagon%2F'; addthis_title = 'Did+CBS+Miss+The+Vampire+Bandwagon%3F'; addthis_pub = ''; More »

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Good News and Bad
In an effort to sum up Friday’s second season premiere of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS , a classic TV theme song comes to mind. “You take the good you take the bad you take them both and there you have… umm, the second season premiere of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS?” First, the good. From the hilarious ‘What Would Riggins Do’ opening to Julie breaking down in the car as she explained to her dad that she doesn’t want to end up like her mom — no show on television does genuine family drama like FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. That said, one plot point that I’m not about to spoil [in the off chance you have yet to see the premiere] begs the question. Did FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS just turn into MELROSE PLACE? Or worse, ONE TREE HILL? I did not see that coming. And short of ‘it’ being a dream sequence [which I’m... More »

Exclusive: Thomas Dekker Says TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES may be back
Thomas Dekker at FanExpo 2009 (Source: Dekker Daily ) Thomas Dekker was our first. On-set interview that is. Which is why — aside from starring in one of the most criminally under-appreciated television shows in recent memory — we’ll always have a soft spot for the TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES star. And, why this TV Addict took it upon himself to brave the horde of 50,000 strong that converged upon Toronto’s Annual FanExpo over the weekend to provide fans of the show with some much needed closure. And, as luck would have it, a little hope — courtesy of the always classy and candid Dekker (Who was on hand to promote the slasher flick Laid to Rest ) and was more than happy to take a few minutes to reflect upon his now infamous YouTube video , the one thing he would have changed about the series and of... Exclusive: GLEE Star Chris Colfer on Kurt's Coming Out Party
As much as it may be in-vogue to snicker about the death of broadcast television thank-you-very-much-Emmy-telecast, we sometimes forget what a powerful medium it is. In the blink of an eye, the small screen in your living room has the ability to get presidents elected, turn unknowns into idols and, perhaps most importantly, alter people’s perceptions. Just ask DAWSON’S CREEK alum Kerr Smith , whose portrayal of openly-gay high schooler Jack McPhee quite literally changed lives. “I remember this one kid, he watched that one episode where Jack comes out of the closet to his father, and he told me right after that he walked in the next room and told his parents that he was gay. I don’t know how to feel about that, you know what I mean?” Smith told journalists recently. ”That character was quite influential on a lot of kids that were going through the same kinds of issues as Jack.... SUPERNATURAL Stars Diss Fans!
After four years of death-defying demon hunting, the Winchester Brothers have finally met their match: A handful of teenager girls. How else to explain Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles conspicuous absence (once again!) from the upcoming SUPERNATUARL panel at July’s San Diego Comic Convention, which as of this posting has Misha Collins (Castiel), Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer), Eric Kripke (Creator/Executive Producer), Sera Gamble (Executive Producer) and Ben Edlund (Executive Producer) scheduled to attend. Simply put, there is no excuse. If anyone owes their fandom a thank you for five seasons of continuous employment — not to mention the ludicrously large paychecks that come with said employment — it’s the brothers J. In fact, we’d even go as far as to say that the legion of loyal and very vocal SUPERNATURAL fans are — aside from Kripke himself — responsible for not only having kept the show on the air all... Our Reaction to the TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES Season Finale
Yes, you heard me. SEASON Finale. But putting aside the looming concern that last night may have been Sarah Connor’s final chronicle, this TV Addict didn’t want to pass up this opportunity to tip my hat to TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES executive producer/creator Josh Friedman; Who not only took what could have very easily been an excuse for FOX and Warner Bros. to milk a tired franchise with a been there done that killer robot of the week by turning it into a complex and layered discussion about the very nature of humanity, religion and technology. But delivered a season finale that leaves fans in the unexpected position of being both satisfied and wanting more at the exact same time. If this is indeed the end, Friedman dropped off John Connor [after two seasons on the run with Sarah and Cameron] in the midst of the resistance with enough... More »

About Yesterday's SUPERNATURAL Smack-down
If you’re gonna go down, it might as well be in flames. Yesterday, we posted an opinion piece taking the SUPERNATURAL leads — Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki — to task for not appearing at the upcoming Comic Con, saying that we believed they owed it to their wildly supportive fan base to show as a way of saying “thank you”. Well, a whole lot of that fanbase — did we mention how vocal they are? — took us to task. We even received an email from a CW spokesperson labeling the story — and in particular, a major mistake on our part — “not cool.” First, let’s set the record straight: Although we said in the original item that the stars had not been at past Comic Cons, that was without question inaccurate. As the spokesperson reminded us, “both jared and Jensen were there last year and Jensen was... More »

Alex O'Loughlin Talks CRIMINAL MINDS and Reveals Why MOONLIGHT Failed
While it may not be the MOONLIGHT revival that fans were hoping for (or to be more specific, that one really dedicated fan who is single-handedly keeping the “Save MOONLIGHT” campaign alive by inundating my email box with bi-weekly emails), star Alex O’Loughlin is making a return to the small screen this evening on a very special, not to mention intensity creepy episode of CRIMINAL MINDS. And here to talk about tonight’s role with your very own TV Addict, in between shooting his new CBS pilot (THREE RIVERS) and his upcoming romantic comedy opposite Jennifer Lopez is the immortal one himself, Alex O’Loughlin. Before we get into your guest appearance on tonight’s CRIMINAL MINDS, I of course have to first ask about MOONLIGHT. Were you surprised it was cancelled? Yes and no. It was a tough show for everybody in a sense that it was a high maintenance girlfriend. You... More »

Amy Brennerman Previews Tonight's PRIVATE PRACTICE Premiere
If there is a silver-lining to be taken away from the horrific happening in last May’s PRIVATE PRACTICE season finale. You know, where Dr. Violet Turner (Amy Brennerman) was left for dead, bleeding out and unconscious after falling victim to an unthinkable crime courtesy of her former psychiatric patient Katie (Amanda Foreman) who ran off with Violet’s baby she so desperately believed was hers (hence, the crazy). Is that for the first time in a long time, audiences spent the summer talking about a Shonda Rhimes series for what happened on camera, rather than off. Whether you fell into the ‘loved it’ camp, or the ‘loathed it’ one, there is no denying the fact that you talked about it. A LOT! Which is why, this TV Addict was thrilled to recently be given the opportunity to to check into Oceanside Wellness in person for an exclusive Q&A with the topic... More »

Morning Static: Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Abdul & More!
Welcome to our new morning round-up of big/interesting TV news that you may have missed over the past 24 hours because unlike us, there’s a fairly good chance that have a life outside of the small screen. A&E Television Network is suing California-based Genuine Entertainment over who thought up the idea for a Steven Seagal reality TV show. Which if you ask us, is probably not something to be proud of. We’re just sayin’ ">[Reuters] Good News: SEINFELD alum Patrick Warburton continues to make us laugh. Bad News: Not so much on his middling CBS sitcom RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, but rather thanks to his cameo in the latest Apple commercial. [YouTube] In: THE X FACTOR contestant Danyl Johnson . Out: THE X FACTOR contestant Susan Boyle [YouTube] Wondering what Blake Lively, Rachel Bilson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Regis Philbin and Alexander Skarsgard all have it common aside from the fact that... The TV Addict Asks: Why Was HEROES: ORIGINS Really Cancelled
Today, NBC announced that as a result of the looming writer’s strike, the peacock network is pulling the plug on the much-hyped HEROES spin-off ORIGINS . ORIGINS, set to fill the void between April and May Sweeps was going to introduce one new hero a week with the help of a few Hollywood heavyweights such as Kevin Smith, Eli Roth and Michael Dougherty. Naturally, the surprise and sudden cancellation of one pretty exciting idea begs the question. Is the writer’s strike really responsible for the cancellation of ORIGINS. Or simply a convenient excuse to hide the fact that HEROES has seriously underperformed both creatively and more importantly in the ratings this season. More »
