5 Things You Didn't Know About BROTHERS & SISTERS Star Gilles Marini

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on November 20, 2009 2:48 PM

He moved to America with $400 dollars in his pocket. Just how badly did Gilles Marini want to make it to America, the country that he calls “the big dream,” and represents “the sky is the limit.” He picked up and left his native France speaking not a word of english, and with a mere $400 in his pocket. “As soon as I got to America a lot of people really helped me out and trusted me,” explained the actor on a recent one-on-one with the TV Addict. “People I will always remember, people who will always have a place in my heart. ” His revealing role in SEX AND THE CITY was not his first big gig. Although best known as the casanova in the beach house next door to Samantha in the SEX AND THE CITY movie, Marini actually found his way onto Hollywood’s radar with small parts... More »

Good News, Bad News: CHUCK, OPRAH, TRAUMA & More!

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on November 20, 2009 8:03 AM

Good News: NBC has announced that CHUCK will return on January 10th with two back-to-back episodes before moving to its regular Monday at 8PM time-slot on January 11th. Bad News: For Morgan Grimes, whose girlfriend Anna Wu (Julia Ling) was conspicuously left off NBC’s announcement press release and appears to be a victim of NBC’s downsizing. [Ausiello] Good News: After 25 years, THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW will come to an end on September 9, 2011. Bad News: For many Americans, who will soon be left scratching their head as to what books they should be reading and how to throw an intimate dinner party for eight on a budget. [EW] Good News: NBC is bringing the lowly-rated TRAUMA back from the dead. Bad News: For the Peacock Network, whose desperate attempt to triage the bleeding that is their primetime lineup speaks volumes about their current woes. [TheLiveFeed] Good News: Steven... More »

We Cast ABC's CHARLIE'S ANGELS Reboot

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on November 15, 2009 11:27 AM

As the saying goes. “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Which is why — rather than bemoan the news that ABC is close to green-lighting CHARLIE’S ANGELS, another re-imagination of an iconic 70’s franchise, we thought we’d have a little fun by throwing in our two cents. After-all, if there’s one thing Hollywood loves more than an already established franchise: It’s securing big name stars to help promote the show. CHARLIE’S ANGELS “For the love-of-God we’d give anything to see these small screen favorites put the brakes on forgettable romantic comedies and return to the medium that made them a star” EDITION: Kristen Bell (VERONICA MARS), Rachel Bilson (THE OC), and Claire Danes (MY SO-CALLED LIFE). CHARLIE’S ANGELS “Three talents who never got enough screen time” EDITION: Sarah Drew (EVERWOOD), Liza Weil (GILMORE GIRLS), and Keri Lynn Pratt (JACK & BOBBY). With Tom Amandes (EVERWOOD) as Bosley. CHARLIE’S ANGELS... More »

SETH AND ALEX's ALMOST LIVE COMEDY SHOW Was *Almost* Funny

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on November 9, 2009 9:10 AM

If last November’s ROSIE LIVE! was the final nail in the Primetime Variety Show’s coffin, last night’s FAMILY GUY PRESENTS: SETH AND ALEX’s ALMOST LIVE COMEDY SHOW was the funeral. Starring Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD, CLEVELAND SHOW) and Alex Borstein (the voice of “Lois”) SETH AND ALEX’s ALMOST LIVE COMEDY featured a mix of musical numbers, sketches and animated interstitials. Almost none of which — with the notable exception of a far-too-brief appearance by Stewie to introduce the trailers for the upcoming Warner Bros. films Sherlock Holmes and Ninja Assasins ) was funny. Offensive for offensive sake, the dynamic duo’s jokes ridiculing the Holocaust (Borstein objected to MacFarlane performing “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music on the grounds that she is Jewish), Marlee Matlin’s speaking voice (Complete with cameo that went on far too long) and failed screen tests (Bea Arthur auditions for Showgirls ), all fell terribly... Today's TV Addict Top 5: Things We Loved About Last Night's MODERN FAMILY

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on November 5, 2009 10:46 AM

It’s all about the little things. Be it the running gag that highlighted Jay’s penchant for making t-shirts to celebrate special occasions, Dunphey daughter Alex’s hilarious habit of making her siblings look stupid (Note to self: Cell phone battery cannot be charged via static electricity) or Cameron ending the episode off, no doubt much to Mitchell’s chagrin, in a bright yellow t-shirt, MODERN FAMILY is the only series we’ve started watching twice for fear of missing gags. Zorro Reincarnate There’s a reason we’ve already put in our order for one of Jay’s “Who Da Manny?” t-shirts: His pint-sized portrayer Rico Rodriguez can do no wrong. From his momentary retirement from fencing, “defeating a woman will be a mark of honour” to his championship defeat of a poor girl who unbeknownst to him turned out to be a diabetic orphan whose cheering section included her nurse and a gaggle of patients... Today's TV Addict Top 5: Question with BROTHERS & SISTERS Showrunners David Marshall Grant and Allison Schapker, Who Set the Record Straight

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on October 30, 2009 3:33 PM

First off, I’d be remiss if I didn’t congratulate you on your new job as BROTHERS & SISTERS showrunner. That said, there’s been an awful lot of speculation about the change of leadership and I’m hoping you can set the record straight. David Marshall Grant: The holy grail of writing is the chance to develop your own show and move forward and after three years of Allison [Schapker], Monica [Breen] and I writing, collaborating and slogging through it, Allison and Monica wanted the opportunity to develop other things aside from this show. BROTHERS & SISTERS is insanely demanding, and something we can’t really do without them. So there was a discussion about how we could make a transition so that they could do more of what they wanted to to — be writers — but leave the actually responsibility of showrunning to somebody else. So I ended up slowly taking... More »

Our (Slightly Less Than Serious) Take on the Future of JON & KATE PLUS EIGHT

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on May 26, 2009 1:26 PM

Full disclosure: This TV Addict has never watched (or plans to watch) an entire episode of JON & KATE PLUS 8. Seriously, it’s realty shows like this one that give television a bad name. But since this reality TV train-wreck has become just that — an accident one can’t help but stop and stare at — this TV Addict, against my better judgement took a few moments this morning to read EW’s recap on last night’s fifth season premiere and watch the opening seven minutes of the show America cannot stop talking about (see above video) What I saw were two visibly exhausted and very angry parents with Jon proclaiming that he, “did not sign up for public scrutiny” and Kate admitting that appearing on the cover of the tabloids ”kill her,” wondering if anyone ever thinks about the ”human on the cover’.’ Well Kate, we’ve got news for you.... Today's TV Addict Top 5: CT's Reasons To Start Watching EASTWICK

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on October 28, 2009 8:43 AM

Sara Rue. Sure, at first I was annoyed that she isn’t one of the leads, but as second-banana/gal pal Penny, her bubbly personality shines far more than it probably would as one of the witchy women. Magic is sexy. Paul Gross. Matt Dallas. Jon Bernthal. Johann Urb. Jack Huston. Hello, Hunkapalooza. And of course, the ladies are well-represented thanks to Jaime Ray Newman, Lindsay Price, Rebecca Romijn, Ashley Benson and the aforementioned Rue. It’s everything you love. Take the humour of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, the former set of GILMORE GIRLS, a dash of mystery, a touch of mythology and the romantic entanglements of GREY’S ANATOMY, and you have one tasty concoction… in a bubbling cauldron. They keep it simple. Although there is a continuing story bubbling just beneath the surface, this ain’t rocket science. Jumping in late won’t be a problem for most viewers. (And those who have story questions can send... More »

You Be the Critic: STARGATE UNIVERSE

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on October 3, 2009 1:05 PM

Thanks to the void left by BATTLESTAR GALCATICA ending its run combined with our rejuvenated interest in all things space courtesy of JJ. Abrams successful STAR TREK re-boot, Sy Fy’s third incarnation of the STARGATE universe, appropriately titled just that, could not have arrived at a better time. Which is why last night, this TV Addict went where I have never gone before by subjecting myself to an actual entire episode of STARGATE. The two-hour pilot kicked off with a literal bang, when some space baddies (who this STARGATE virgin can only assume have a history of blowing stuff up) attacked a planet — forcing the mysterious Dr. Nicholas Rush (Played by ‘foreigner’ Robert Carlyle, so you know he’s both really smart and obviously ‘up to the something’) to shepherd a ragtag group of military types (such as Louis Ferreira’s Colonel Young and Brian J. Smith’s Lieutenant Scott), politicos (Elyse... More »

You Be the Critic: DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BROTHERS & SISTERS & DEXTER

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on September 29, 2008 10:42 AM

After spending all summer hearing about a twist so huge it would be like “throwing a pebble on a mountain, only to have it turn into an avalanche that can’t be stopped.” This TV Addict couldn’t help but feel slightly let down by last night’s supposedly shocking ending to DEXTER’s third season opener. I mean seriously, Dexter is a daddy? Isn’t that type of predictable plot contrivance usually reserved for DEXTER’s time-slot competitor DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES? Which bring us to the ladies of Wisteria Lane. Who in a word, I LOVED! As expected. the five year flash forward was the exact ingredient DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES needed to completely reinvigorate the show. Not only do we now get to spend an hour a week filling in the blanks as to what happened to our fab five over the course of the past five years, we get an even funnier Gabby, a far less... More »

Today's TV Addict Top 5: Useless Characters On Popular Shows

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on October 7, 2009 10:23 AM

Serena Van der Woodsen, GOSSIP GIRL For two seasons, she and Dan did the make-up/break-up thing, despite the fact we didn’t really care. Now, she’s hanging with Carter, and while the weak-chinned look of his portrayer, Sebastian Stan, totally worked for his KINGS alter ego (given that the guy was something of a conniving wuss), it’s just kinda silly in the world of Manhattan’s elite. Vincent Chase, ENTOURAGE Sign you know your character’s run its course, when you’re upstaged for an entire season by a character named “Turtle.” Ernie The Giant Chicken, FAMILY GUY You know the running gag in which Peter gets into excruciatingly long and, in the end, entirely pointless fights with a violence-prone chicken? That needs to stop. And while we’re on the subject of pointless sight gags that were funny the first time, Conway Twitty interludes stopped being funny a long time ago. Chace Crawford, GOSSIP... Today's TV Addict Top 5: Not-So-Burning Questions On Our Minds Today

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on September 29, 2009 7:23 AM

By: CT Did GOSSIP GIRL really expect us be buy those studious students? We totally buy that college students would opt to watch Vanessa’s documentary over attending Blair’s cocktail party. Not. Sorry, but no matter how annoying the hostess, the first rule of college is “free booze is free booze.”   Was there a light shining directly in Wentworth Miller’s eyes for the entire duration of the LAW & ORDER: SVU season premiere? That’s the only way to explain the fact that he squinted through the entire episode. If PRISON was his BREAKout performance, this one might have shown that he’s a one-hit wonder.   How long can actors really be expected to remain in high school? THE VAMPIRE DIARES alone features both Paul Wesley (who, as Paul Wasilewski, was playing a teen on GUIDING LIGHT back in 1999) and Kayla Ewell (who was a FREAKS & GEEKS high schooler... More »

Amy Brennerman Previews Tonight's PRIVATE PRACTICE Premiere

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on October 1, 2009 8:51 AM

If there is a silver-lining to be taken away from the horrific happening in last May’s PRIVATE PRACTICE season finale. You know, where Dr. Violet Turner (Amy Brennerman) was left for dead, bleeding out and unconscious after falling victim to an unthinkable crime courtesy of her former psychiatric patient Katie (Amanda Foreman) who ran off with Violet’s baby she so desperately believed was hers (hence, the crazy). Is that for the first time in a long time, audiences spent the summer talking about a Shonda Rhimes series for what happened on camera, rather than off. Whether you fell into the ‘loved it’ camp, or the ‘loathed it’ one, there is no denying the fact that you talked about it. A LOT! Which is why, this TV Addict was thrilled to recently be given the opportunity to to check into Oceanside Wellness in person for an exclusive Q&A with the topic... More »

Channel Surfing: GLEE, MODERN FAMILY, HANK & COUGAR TOWN

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on October 1, 2009 3:05 PM

Oops GLEE did it again, and by that I mean, continued to cost me money on iTunes by delivering not one, or two, but rather four show-stopping numbers (See: Maybe This Time , Last Name ,  Alone and Somebody to Love ) Seriously, last night’s episode was so good that this TV Addict didn’t even blink when our spectacular (or as some have called it, Emmy-worthy performance) as “Audience Member #24″ was left on the cutting room floor to make room for some chick named Kristin Chenosomethingorother! That noise you just heard? This TV Addict breathing a deep sigh of relief over MODERN FAMILY’s phenomenal second outing. That other noise? Me furiously banging my head on my desk as I try to decide which story-line was my favorite. In fact — between Ty Burrell’s Phil teaching his son Luke a valuable (and hilarious) lesson about responsibility by inadvertently transforming himself... More »

TV to Tweet About: The CW Cancels THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE: TBL

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on September 26, 2009 9:50 AM

In an effort to avoid the dubious distinction that comes with green-lighting the first cancelled show of the Fall, the CW tried their best to bury the news production has been officially halted on THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE: TBL late Friday afternoon. But try as they might, the CW couldn’t stop the tweet. Which is why we thought it might be fun to compile our ten favorite TBL related ones, starting off course with our own shameless twitter plug reaction upon hearing the news. “Sorry CW, there is no hiding your massive failure on “Take Out the Trash Day.” THE WEST WING taught us well” @theTVaddict “When the CW didn’t even bother sending out finished review copy of TBL pilot, the writing (or lack of) was already on the cancellation wall.” @roushtvguidemag “I’m sad that Corbin Bleu took off his clothes for nothing. Exclusive: GLEE Star Chris Colfer on Kurt's Coming Out Party

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on September 23, 2009 10:59 AM

As much as it may be in-vogue to snicker about the death of broadcast television thank-you-very-much-Emmy-telecast, we sometimes forget what a powerful medium it is. In the blink of an eye, the small screen in your living room has the ability to get presidents elected, turn unknowns into idols and, perhaps most importantly, alter people’s perceptions. Just ask DAWSON’S CREEK alum Kerr Smith , whose portrayal of openly-gay high schooler Jack McPhee quite literally changed lives. “I remember this one kid, he watched that one episode where Jack comes out of the closet to his father, and he told me right after that he walked in the next room and told his parents that he was gay.  I don’t know how to feel about that, you know what I mean?” Smith told journalists recently. ”That character was quite influential on a lot of kids that were going through the same kinds of issues as Jack.... The Morning After: THE GOOD WIFE

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on September 23, 2009 6:59 AM

By: CT Sometimes, what you see is what you get. In the case of CBS’ new drama THE GOOD WIFE , what CBS showed us in the endless promos leading up to its debut wasn’t at all what actually aired last night. The promos sold WIFE as a story about political scandal and its impact on a marriage when, in fact, the show is little more than a female-empowerment legal procedural. To be sure, it is a well-written, strongly-cast procedural, but a procedural none the less. The political scandal which took center stage during 95 percent of the ads took place in the first minute — which, by the way, many people missed if not tuned in for the preceding NCIS: LOS ANGELES, in a move CBS should be ashamed of — before we fast-forwarded six months to find Julianna Margulies’ Alicia starting work at a law firm. She is,... More »

Spotlight on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Star Nina Dobrev

Posted to blog theTVaddict on DVRplayground on September 10, 2009 10:29 AM

Nina Dobrev with the TV Addict’s trusty sidekick Mac WHY YOU KNOW HER: Before heading south of the border to headline THE VAMPIRE DIARIES , Nina Dobrev was perhaps best known for her portrayal of DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION’s very own version of ‘Juno MacGuff,’ full-time high school student/mom and part-time model (natch!) Mia Jones. ON THE SUCCESS OF HER FELLOW DEGRASSI ALUM: Not that Dobrev really needs to remind us, but many DEGRASSI grads have a knack for going onto even bigger and better things. “Drake [Aubrey Graham] is doing music, Shenae [Grimes] is on 90210 and Jake Epstein is starring in Spring Awakening . We’re all kind of moving on to new chapters in our career, yet DEGRASSI still remains a huge part of our lives. [Prior to starting shooting THE VAMPIRE DIARIES] I went back and did a couple of episodes for the new season.” ON THE... More »
