Can you use these same instructions to upgrade from 3.1.5f to 6.3c?
Update Your PTVnet-Networked HR10-250 to 6.3b Using the Slicer
DirecTV recently released yet another software update for the HR10-250, 6.3b. Version 6.3 (no letter) was released to give HR10-250 users the faster menus and groups (folders) that were available with non-HD boxes running version 6.2, but many users were unable to access all of the available satellites after the update to 6.3. 6.3a was released to fix that issue, but introduced its own set of problems, mainly audio dropout issues. The "b" version was released to alleviate the audio dropout issues noted with 6.3a.

Yes to both question above. The same codes for 6.3b work with 6.3c. And yes you can use the same instructions for 6.3c as 6.3b
With version 1.7 of the Slicer, you can use the "-d" option to get the slices from the DVRupgrade server.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.
I got 6.3c up with no prob, but I have TivoWebPlus and seems like Channel guide and some other items that I thought used to work are not functioning.
Be somewhat careful with 6.3x and TivoWebPlus. I know that I crashed my HR10 several times trying to restore my Season passes etc.
Question: I enter the command to the to do the slice and I get this
Segmentation fault
Can anyone help Thanks
n6zcm, did you transfer the Slicer in binary mode?

Yog-Sothoth, Thank you so much for that bit of info it worked... One more question I have a another box but I forgot the command to allow writing to the drive i get........ bash: ./slicer: Permission denied
Any help will be most thankful
Not quite sure what happened but I had posted that there was a possibility you needed to change the file attributes to executable if it wasn't already set as such. That post seems to have been deleted. Not really sure how or why. Regardless if rootwrite doesn't work try in bash in the folder where you have slicer doing a ls-al and see if slicer is executable. You should see something like rwxrwxrwx vs r--r--r-- they stand for read/write/execute. If you don't have the x just type chmod 775 slicer and it will be executable.
best of luck...
I am running brand new 6.3c by PTVNET and InstantCake. My Tivo Publisher is 1.3. I followed the steps for HMO but I am having problems with pictures. Error#43-400.
Music is working just fine.
Any ideas on what I screwed up? Thanks
The upgrade instructions also work for 6.3d.

I'm running 6.3d (thanks to slicer) and went through all the echo -ne command to disable encryption, enable 30-second skip, etc. All seemed to go well, but when I hit the 30-second skip button the receiver reboots. Not a feature I wanted to enable... at least not on that button. Any ideas?
Has anyone else run into a problem with not rebooting once you edit the rc.sysinit's debug_board=true ?
I edited, and then could not get the TiVo past the powering up message. I had to put it in a PC and use joe to edit it back to false.
So I cannot force a call through the modem, nor can I do so through the net.
It looks like the only way to upgrade from 3.1.5f to 6.3d is to buy a new set of CD images (Slicer, InstantCake) and go from there.
But it also looks like I stand to lose my recordings if I use slicer?

You won't lose your recordings if you have a hacked 3.1.5 image and just do a slicer upgrade.
I bought slicer back when 6.3c came out. I now have 6.3e slices in my HR10-250. Will the version of Slicer I have still work for 6.3e? Is there a new version available?
Yes, it will work (I'm still using version 1.3a).
The patches for 6.3e (HR10-250) are as follows:
# rootwrite
# cp /tvbin/tivoapp /tvbin/tivoapp.orig
# cd /tvbin
# mv tivoapp tivoapp.tmp
# cp tivoapp.tmp tivoapp
# chmod 755 tivoapp
# echo -ne "\x3C\x02\x00\x00" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=1601872
# echo -ne "\x10\x40\x00\x2b" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=6717416
# echo -ne "\x24\x10\x00\x01" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=2804964

Can someone clarify - is the HR10-250 still fully compatible with all of Directv's HD content once hacked and updated? If so, when adding an HR10-250 to a household with a bunch of hacked Sammy DTIVOs, what will I need to do for the HR10-250's antenna requirement? Do I need to install a separate dish with cables running directly to the Hughes? What type of dish specifically?
Thanks!

The HR10-250 is not compatible with the new MPEG-4 HD channels.

Is there a modification opportunity people are developing, or is it impossible for it to ever run mpeg-4 HD? Besides locals, which channels are mpeg-4? That is, what channels do you lose by using an HR10-250?
I see that some use the HR10-250- does the locals-over-the-air method work fairly seemlessly with the HR10-250...fairly well?
