yeah i'm having the same problem with the "Account Closed" message. I'm also still having audio problems where the dolby digital cuts out for 3-5 seconds at a time. it was already on dolby pcm. I also still haven't gotten my usb ethernet to work again on 6.3. I can't figure out how to get the hacked usb drivers on via serial connection. oh well, i guess i'll wait for a fourth program to buy from ptvupgrade that fixes this. maybe i'll sell all these ptvupgrade programs and give up.

I own a HR10-250. I use Vonage for phone services which doesn't seem to play well with my Tivo's ability to contact the mother ship. I would like to use Slicer to upgrade to 6.3a but my Tivo hasn't been able to download the new code successfully. Is the upgrade available that I can download from the internet and manually place in the SwSystem folder?

ToyBoy, if you want to use the Slicer to upgrade, read my thread here (post any replies there, as this comments section is intended for the Slicer and is not intended to be a 6.3a upgrade thread).

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

If I used the Slicer to upgrade my HR10-250 from 3.1.5f to 6.3a can I use the slicer to then down grade from 6.3a to 3.1.5f?

Thanks Yog-Sothoth, I'll try your download process.

This may not be a strictly Slicer 1.3a issue, but I believe it comes in to play so sorry if this is the wrong forum. I took a slicer upgraded drive that worked fine (tivo and network) and did a "clear all". Now Tivo works, but lights are on, but no network. I pulled the drive and all files / directories appear to be there. First question is "should a clear all break the network" and second questions, if "There's a few ways to do it, but I suggest doing over serial bash. Once your conected, enter:

tivosh /hacks/network.itcl ipaddress routeraddress

Then reboot. " is the fix, do I need to do it after every clear, and what are the other ways ? I have a serial cable, but none of my laptops have a serial port.

Thanks in advance

When I ran the Slicer 1.3 it gave me an error message of:

 segmenation fault

no other detail.

Any suggestions?

How do I return The Slicer. It didn't work for me and nobody answers the email support. Should I call my CC company? I realize it is do-it-yourself but if it doesn't work for everyone then it is faulty.

Hey All

I got a DSR7000 (2 drives hacked for more space)  that i had networked with PTVnet, everything has been working fine on it. I checked that I had the 6.2 slices on it and decided to purchase the slicer for upgrading it.

I loaded the slicer with FTP and then telneted to the tivo and went thru the whole proccess following the propmpts with no issues. Once it was done and asked for a reboot I did so. and now the tivo is stuck in the "welcome powering up" mode. it's been over 1 hour so im pretty sure it's busted.

Is there anything I can do to recover it? I dont have a serial cable handy but I am able to get the drives out of the box.

What are my options? I do have TONS of recordings that I like to save if possible.

thx!

A clear all does indeed delete your network settings.  Over a serial connection you could run /hacks/network.tcl (not itcl) ipaddress routeraddress to re-establish the network settings.  Another way is to pull the drive an put it in your PC, then edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author file with the above command.  After your tivo boots for the first time it will run the script and set the network paramters, but you'll have to reboot for them to take effect.

Audio dropouts with 6.3a software is a known issue, and affects almost half of all users - see http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51190 Again, this is not caused by the slicer.   I suspect that Tivo will issue a 6.3b in the near future to correct the problem.  Don't hold your breath on a new slicer fixing your problems - do a little reading, and figure out what drivers need to be copied where.  Your defeatist comments lead me to believe you'll be watching a stock tivo until the next PTVnet comes out.

You can most likely recover the recordings easily.  After an upgrade, a non booting tivo is almost always the result of a failed kernel copy.  If you had a serial cable you could confirm this.  To fix it, you'll need to copy a killhdinitrd'd kernel to your tivo drive, which is fairly easy.  Take the master drive out of the Tivo and put it in your PC, and boot to the PTV lba48 boot CD (the $5 one).  Next,

1. Mount your CD drive with:

mount /dev/hdX (where X is is the location of your cdrom drive)

2. Copy the hacked kernel from the CD to /var with:

cp /cdrom/s2_kernels/3.1.5/vmlinux.px.gz /var

3. Extract the kernel with:

cd /var

gunzip -d -v vmlinux.px.gz

4. copy the hacked kernel to both your kernel partitions:

dd if=/var/vmlinux.px of=/dev/hdX3 bs=1024 count=2048

dd if=/var/vmlinux.px of=/dev/hdX6 bs=1024 count=2048

(where X is the location of your tivo drive)

5. install back in your tivo and boot.

If you get hung up, there's tons of threads on dealdatabase.com on copying kernels.

Do the kernels have to be specific to your tivo version? Since I upgraded the tivo with the slicer to 6.2?

The 3.1.5 kernel works with several tivo software versions, including 6.2.

Sorry for my persistence but does anyone have a suggestion on this problem?  Googling tells me this is probably some sort of Unix partitioning issue but my Unix knowledge is far too slim to go very far on my own with this one.

My thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Persistence is good! I'm not sure why it would segfault for you, but you can try a few things to fix it. Make sure your FTP client is in binary mode when you transfer the slicer to your tivo. Reboot the tivo before running it. Also try running it from a different location.

Well...

I went and bought the V11 version of LBA48 , might as well have the best one :)

I did exactly as you described all went well but to no avail the Tivo wont boot. I even try flipping the boot partition to the alternate and no go. Ive user bootpage and tpip msinfo to read the drives and everyone looks well I dont get any errors anywhere or see anything that might report a problem

I bought the Instacake for my tivo and baked me a new unit with a spare drive so at least im up and running.

Any ideas how I can transfers / recover my season passes + recordings? I seen some posts about MFSstreams and done some extensive searches on DDB but cant figure out how to use it once I boot with the LBA CD.  Im using it on a spare machine with nothing but a CD drive atatched as HDA, perhpas I could network boot to map some storage to copy the recordings?

 any help is appreciated

 thx!

Durr I wasnt thinking :)

I unmounted the CDrom and mounted one with the unified tools on it. im mucking about with the drives but keep getting a "kernel too old" message

October 29, 2006 4:05 PM

Can I use the Slicer to rollback an HR10-250 from 6.1a to 3.1? I am getting audio probs with 6.1a

thx

posted this in the wrong place initially, sorry

No.

Ok, I am at the stage of pulling my hair out. What is the mls command, and where can I find it? I hacked my HR10-250 with Instantcake and PVnet and would like to upgrade to 6.3a. Every time I run ./slicer it fails, giving me the error: WARNING: couldn't scan startup script /tvlib/tcl/tv/tv.ini WARNING: eval result : can't read "env(TIVO_ROOT)": no such element in arrayinvalid command name "mls" The same happens when I try to run echo mls /SwSystem | tivosh I get the same error. Is this an independent command, or is it supposed to be internal to tivosh? If so, what is the remedy? Thanks!

October 29, 2006 7:05 PM

Ok, a little research and I see it is an internal function of Tivosh, but it is missing from mine! If I hit ? I get a list of all the commands, and mls isn't among them. What should I do now? Not sure how my copy of tivosh doesn't have this command...

TIA

October 29, 2006 7:11 PM

I did a version and I have Tivosh 8.0, if that helps

October 29, 2006 7:29 PM

Last followup:

I see mls is a proc found in  fsdir.tcl. It looks like tivosh can't find the tv.ini script, but the path is correct, it does reside there.

TIA
