If not, see if you can find it and start it manually. Then check your author file to see if it is issuing the appropriate command to start it up when you boot. If all else fails, you can use a serial cable to transfer files. Otherwise, pull the drive and copy Alphawolf's all-in-one utility set to the root filesystem.
If you have trouble connecting after running The Slicer, you will have to check things out either with a serial cable or by pulling the drive. Here's what to do:
1. Examine the rc.sysinit.author file, and make sure any files that start with "insmod", "route add", or "ifconfig" are either deleted or commented out.
2. Verify that there are a series of lines appended to the end of your author file that start with: ## Slicer - run network script only once...
3. Verify that there is a file called /enhancements/network.tcl present.
4. Verify that there is a file called /slicer_firstboot. If it's not there, create with the command "touch /slicer_firstboot"
After this, boot/reboot the drive, let the unit reboot again automatically, and networking should come up. There are a few relatively uncommon configurations that would still cause networking to fail:
1. You have an adapter that is not compatible with Tivo's stock drivers, like the USB200M v.2, or Airlink ASOHOSB. If this is the case, you'll have to copy the drivers from your old root partition to your new partition.
2. You are setting up network parameters somewhere else other than the author file. If this is so, delete or comment out those network setup commands.

The update did seem to work, I do have 6.3 running well, just have no access to it to change anything. I have seen comments mentioning I have to update the kernel, but I am lacking details on how to do it. I can remove my drives and remount with a PTVupgrade disk, but just need advice on what and how to run it. Thanks, Bob
Ignore my post above. I thought you still didn't have networking after running version 1.2. I'll leave my post in tact for anyone still without access after using v.1.2. Here are your options if you lost networking after running v.1.1:

It looks like option 4 is what you were thinking of originally.
I'm going to be doing a slicer(1.2) upgrade this evening to a 3.1.5 (original) kernel hr10-250. It's been hacked manually, and uses a version 1 USB100M network adapter, and runs ftp, telnet, serial bash, and tivowebplus (w dailymail), and fakecall.*
If i can be of any use for baseline info etc... to help with slicer troubleshooting and improvements, let me know via pm or this thread. (ie... help isolate issues or potential issues with slicer)
*has never actually dialed home, even the initial setup call was via fakecall :-)
Lou,
With regard to the trouble I had using slicer to replace a kernel on at tivo that did not have gunzip, as recored in this thread:
http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/thread/13355/?page=1
Perhaps this comment from Alphawolf long ago might be helpful in future updates of the Slicer:
Theres no need for gunzip. The tivo always includes gzip in its stock configuration, just use gzip -d, theres no difference between the two. If you just like the command gunzip, you could always add "alias gunzip='gzip -d'" to your /.profile.
The above is quoted from post #43 of this thread:

I just forced a call on my HR10. It was at 3.1.5d, and I now have the 3.1.5f slices (ultimately I wantt 6.3, but I figure I might need to be at f first). I tried to run slicer to get to f but get the following error:
installSw.itcl failed to set up your new partitions. Please
run /tvbin/installSw.itcl manually to pinpoint the error.
Also check to see if installSw.itcl was edited properly.
Since your bootpage was not flipped, you will not lose your
existing hacks if you reboot, and The Slicer may safely be
run again. Exiting now...
Not sure what I am supposed to be looking for.
Thanks,
HUGE
EDIT: Moot point, for whatever reason the system now says 3.1.5f. Not sure why, and I still have network access. Now I just wait for 6.3.
Slicer 1.2 upgrade of a hd10-250 (hacked, see post #30) has worked like a charm.. network, and all hacks preserved.
Well done ptvupgrade!
Thanks
Still some more testing to be done before final victory is declared.
I really appreciate all the patience of those who've been trying, and retrying with all the updates.
Special thanks to rbautch who jumped in and helped to augment the code, as well as a bunch of testing and support over the weekend.
More updates later.
Thx,
Lou

Well , progress, then ??
I managed to get ftp working by finding tivoftpd.mips and executing then adding to rc.sysinit.author Thought life was good. Ended up forcing a phone call thinking it wouold aid in getting my other 2 tivos to download the 6.3 slices. Instead, it seems to have removed my /var/hack directory. Anyone have a suggestion on how to recover without removing the drive ??
Anyone here with the 'now playing list' problem? any thoughts on this issue?
/var get wiped occasionally as a matter of course, and is not a good place to put hacks. Think of it as the "recycle bin" on a Windows PC. They're gone for good.bgrubb1 said: Well , progress, then ?? It appears to be a bug in Tivowebplus, and the folks on DealDataBase.com are working on it. Instead of pressing select, you'll need to press "play", at least for now.Dave7101 said: Anyone here with the 'now playing list' problem? any thoughts on this issue?

HUGE, I'd still check your /tvbin/installSw.itcl file to see if it was edited properly. It probably was, but it doesn't hurt to check before you try 6.3. There are three edits that are typical of most slice upgrades:
- Change the reboot command to "exit 0"
- Change "set fSafe 0" to: "set fSafe 1 "
- Change "exec /var/utils/updateroot /dev/hda /install /var/packages >&@ stdout to: exec /var/utils/updateroot /dev/hda /install /var/packages $name >&@ stdout
I highly recommend folks check out this thread at TCF (TiVo Community) for updates and more up-to-the-minute support information associated with some of the workarounds and techniques being used for preserving all of the network capabilities in the migration to 6.3 on the HR10-250.

slicer updated to 1.3
I've just updated to 1.3 and links have been regenerated for everyone who previously ordered.
Notable differences include pretty much everything discussed up to this
point; it was mostly changes to the generated output of the
rc.sysinit.author file.
If you've ordered the product but did not receive your download link,
please check your SPAM folders; and PM me with your order info if you
need the link regenerated. If you botched your drive using the Slicer,
and you didn't make a backup, we are extending the offer for a 3.1.5f
InstantCake distro; send us your Slicer order info and we'll send you a
link. This offer only applies to folks who've purchased the slicer
prior to this post. Thx for your patience.

I just completed the upgrade using slicer 1.3. The network came up without a problem. Telnet, ftp, tivoweb, and tytools all work. My DVR had been hacked using PTV_net. Thanks to all.
I have updated 3 zippered HR10s using slicer 1.3 and FA120's connected to hacked Linksys routers in bridge mode. Networking, telnet ,ftp, TWP all working. Thanks and looking forward to 6.3 HR10 image.BigBearf
One bug I did find, is that when I hit "N" at the network question for "Are these correct?", it changed them anywayz. I thought I changed them before rebooting the TiVo, however, now I have a nonresponsive networked box. I need to PPP into it, and see if that fixes it! Just an FYI!
Has anyone seen slices on the hr10-250 reporting as: 3.1.5f-01-2-357 tyDb 206180 03/25/05 13:10 700 6.3a-01-2-357 tyDb 276884 09/23/06 02:43 772 ACTIVE tyDb 206180 03/25/05 13:10 700 is this a new update? I can not get ./slicer 6.3a-01-2-357 to run I get the following error /var/hack/slicer 6.3a-01-2-357 6.3a-01-2-357 is not a valid TiVo software version! Exiting

Yes, they downloaded today about 2:am, it says 6.3a-01-2
As I stated here, I also got the "a" last night, and it was most likely due to the Daily Call I made yesterday to get new channel logos.
Great, *another* thread subscription.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

As far as the lower case "N", I entered it as lower case! Just didn't undo the Shift Key from hitting the "'s!
Now as far as 6.3 is concerned, can I telnet into the TiVo via Serial (PPP), and have access to change the IPAddress via the network.itcl file!? Or do I have to do it a different way!
--- Goobz!
There's a few ways to do it, but I suggest doing over serial bash. Once your conected, enter:
tivosh /hacks/network.itcl ipaddress routeraddress
Then reboot.
