Don't think I'll be much help Daff, especially since I don't get much. But does the sound issue only happen with the HD OTA broadcasts or both SD and HD. I have issue with my HD broadcast playbacks in general becuase of further moding to be performed. You may be in the same boat as to be expected. Or are you good with HD playback on DTV?

March 8, 2007 10:06 PM

I tried to do some brief testing and this is what I got after extracting to my PC with TyTool:

  1. SD OTA broadcasts still have no sound
  2. HD broadcasts on the DTV Local Channel have sound

I will do some more extensive testing, but it appears any shows recorded on the OTA broadcasts have no sound and any shows recorded via DTV play fine.

Maybe I haven't read enough in the forums, but I can't be the first person experiencing this?

So far the only solution I've seen is to bake a new 3.1.5f drive and stay on that older version of software?

I had successfully upgraded to 6.3c, and was able to get programs over the network. The difference in the Audio is the way it is Muxed into the stream. Try selecting Stereo audio and not AC-3 audio in the audio settings. What I also noticed is the at the audio sync was off when decoded. At this time there is no way to slip the audio easily, so I have reverted back to 3.1.5f. Good luck ....

Since I can successfully extract HD and SD broadcasts from the local channels provided via DTV, I'm satisfied enough with that to stay at 6.3c. Thanks to KOSH for the simple suggestion of trying to record/extract from the DTV local channels instead of the same OTA broadcasts.

Yog, Michael, and Daff, the HR10-250 version 6.3c encryption question has had me up late for the last 3 nights.  I recently fired up an HR10-250 that we bought 2 years ago, (there was not much need for HD until Christmas of this year and our new HDTV), our SD40 worked great.  Anyway, while testing and stting up season passes, the HR10-250 machine phoned home and updated to 6.3.c, so I reordered instant cake, and ptvnet for that version and a 500gig drive and success.  It worked perfectly, the net connected, TivowebPlus, ftp, telenet… WOW!  And so easy!   Then, all I wanted to do was copy files off the Tivo and store them temporarily on the super cheap HD space I have in the 5 PC's networked throughout our house (all my teens & Mom have PC's).

But no....After carefully following the WeetHet guide “To Copy Movies To Your PC” everything worked great until I tried to "Make Key Files" in TyTools.   I received the "Failed to get the first 10 initial chunks".  Night 1, search Google, discover the encryption problem.  Started to search the DDB board.  Night 2, still searching DDB, night 3 brought me here.  Thanks.  I rant here so maybe the search engines will pick up the phrases and help some other poor soul who has an HR10-250 and just wants to turn off encryption.  Alpha Wolf listed every machine but the HR10-250.  I was just about to look up Zipper but came here first.  So to …

DISABLE ENCRYPTION, ENABLE 30-SECOND SKIP, BACKDOORS, AND HMO/HME(!)

  • rootwrite

  • cp /tvbin/tivoapp /tvbin/tivoapp.orig

  • cd /tvbin

  • mv tivoapp tivoapp.tmp

  • cp tivoapp.tmp tivoapp

  • chmod 755 tivoapp

  • echo -ne "\x3C\x02\x00\x00" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=1602412

  • echo -ne "\x10\x40\x00\x2b" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=6713220

I telnet in and at a bash prompt  run these commands? Right?

pcnerdman, you obviously copied/pasted those from my 6.3b article. Yes, those work for 6.3c.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

Yog-Sothoth... I appologize for cutting and pasting without proper credit and for my bad form.   I should have linked.  And I really wanted to say thanks for all your hard work, I have seen your posts on DDB and other spots.  Thanks for this concise guide.  And for updating it with these posts.  And thanks also for all your other guidesl.  I always check them first when I want to learn about the built in features of "Instant Cake" and "PTVnet".  Thanks again.

Hello everyone, I just upgrade my DTivo and it seems to work fine.  I had/have the RCA  DTivo 40. Upgrade the drive to a Seagate  7200 100GB. I used the recommended software Instantcake and PTV DTivo. I am trying to use the Beginner's guide to extraction. All goes well until step 10,

when I enter        ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl command.

I recieved this response.

 ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl

superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl

Your TiVo Software version is 6.2a-01-2-321
Please write down your TiVo Software version.

Error: Version 6.2a-01-2-321 is not supported.

How to I get the right Tivo version or better yet what is the right Tivo version

 Thanks

Does this article and discussion require some updates to take into account the fact that the SD software version is now 6.2a and the HD software version is now 6.3c (and will soon be 6.3d)?

For answers to commonly asked questions, please refer to the

Step 6 - there is no ptvupgrade/bin.  I'm using zipper and not PTVNet.  Should I mkdir ptvupgrade/bin?  - thanks

I've been searching various sites for a few hours now. Has anyone posted the correct information for the hr10-250 ver6.3d? Thanks in advance.

Do the Disable Encryption commands for 6.3a, 6.3b and 6.3c work for 6.3d?  I would like to make sure before upgrading via Slicer from 6.3c to 6.3d.  Also, what about the existing recordings?  Can they still be retrieved via TyTools to the PC and played after upgrading to 6.3d?

September 21, 2007 9:50 AM

When I attempt to run the command

bash-2.02# ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl

I receive the following response:

bash: ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl: No such file or directory.

Any ideas?

* I have verified the tcl file is in the proper location.
* I am attempting to execute the file in proper location.
* I have verified the permissions via chmod.

I am running 6.2 on a DSR7000 created with PTVNet and InstantCake. I have no problems with TyTool for video extraction. I just cannot get the superpatch script to run.

Ok. I answered my own question. In case anyone else experiences this problem make sure your FTP program is set to transfer TCL files to your system in BINARY format. I'm using FileZilla and it was set to auto by default.
