Enabling MRV and HMO with a DirecTiVo

Two things that make a TiVo stand out among DVRs: MRV and HMO. MRV (Multi-Room Viewing) allows programs recorded on one TiVo to be watched on another. HMO (Home Media Option) allows TiVos to view photos and listen to music that are stored on a computer. The following instructions assume you have already built a...

Well, took the plunge and upgraded the hard drives on my "new" S4040Rs with 250GB Maxtor Quickviews using PTVNet 6.2 & InstantCake 6.2a.  Everything seemed to go correctly, easily and quickly.  Installed the drives, fired up the DVRs and was back "on the air" in less than an hour & 1/2.  System info tells me I now have 235hrs of record time.

Now I'm working on getting networking working so as to enable HMO & MRV.  However, I've yet to get my network to recognize the TiVos.  When I checked in "Settings" I only have "Phone" shown, not "Phone and Networking" as I've seen mentioned in various places that I probably should be seeing.

I'm using Linksys USB100TX Ver: 3.0 adaptors.  They are detected as new hardware by my system when I plug them into the computer's USB port so it would seem that they work.  But "nothing" when plugged into either USB port on either DVR.  (I did a reboot on the DVRs after plugging them in so they'd be recognized, but no luck.)

Could I have missed something on the upgrade?  I also did the disable the phone call option during the upgrade, but I notice that the DVRs say the phone call failed because of no dial tone (phone line not connected as I got the U/G to 6.3 on my R10s and don't want that to overwrite the 6.2a just installed on the S4040Rs) and shows that the call has been rescheduled.  So, it appears that the "phone off" option didn't take.  I wonder if that might be the case with some other required feature to be able to network?

Suggestions as to what to look for to solve this will be greatly appreciated!

The USB100TX is a USB 1.0 adapter; try re-running PTVnet and not choosing USB 2.0 drivers.

Thanks for the quick response Yog.

Will I loose the programs I've now got recorded on the HD if I rerun PTVnet?  If so, I'd rather get USB 2.0 adaptors.  However, as the system info doesn't mention anything about networking, maybe that won't help?  Or will a reboot with the 2.0 adaptors then show networking capabilities?

Does anybody know if [when] superpatch will be available for 6.3e-01-2-151 [I have a Hughes SD-DVR40]?  I recently built a new drive with InstantCake for a new 6.2 drive and allowed the DirecTV update to take place.  I got networking to install with the PTVnet force option,  But I am not sure what to do to get superpatch installed. I used superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1 and it complained: "Error: Version 6.3e-01-2-151 is not supported." Any ideas?

No Superpatch for 6.3e—MRV does not work with 6.3e. I recommend reverting to 6.2a.

Been pretty busy, but I finally upgraded to USB 2.0 adaptors.  Rebooted both DVRs and my computer network now recognizes both DVRs and I was able to name them.  However, the DVRs still don't recognize the network.  Just says "Phone" on their menus - no "Network."  So, seems I'm halfway there!  What else do I need to do to get the network feature operational.

Also, the DVRs are still trying to call in.  As said, I don't have the phone line connected so they can't.  But if I selected "phone off" during the PTVnet upgrades, why would they be trying to call and how do I get them to stop?

Any theories as to DirecTV's rationalization on nixing MRV in 6.3?  Why would they want to limit functionality and probably make customers look for "alternatives" to their service?  Doesn't seem to be the way to generate customer loyalty.  Kind of the "My bat, my ball and I don't care what you want" mentality.  With TiVo moving towards IPTV, maybe it might not be too long before we can forget all about cable, Dish and DirecTV.  Wouldn't that be nice!
