Integrated DVRs
Two things that make a TiVo stand out among DVRs: MRV and HMO. MRV (Multi-Room Viewing) allows programs recorded on one TiVo to be watched on another. HMO (Home Media Option) allows TiVos to view photos and listen to music that are stored on a computer. The following instructions assume you have already built a...

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I was spending a lot of time with my TiVos hacking and rehacking them to figure out more about how they work.
After I got your replies before, I did two more machines and they worked fine. As soon as I brought them up the first time, I just immediately went to the rc.sysinit.author and commented out the DHCP things you show and then loaded the extra TiVoWeb module: netconfig.itcl
On those two units, everything went perfectly. The IP gets set in the MFS and the MRV works like a champ
I spent a few more hours with the first machine and it must be messed up somewhere else because whatever you set in the TWP does not stay there for the next reboot. I finally had to use a command line script I found to load them into MFS. It was actually the /ptvupgrade/bin/setip command, I believe.
So now I have three machines that can all see each other and I owe it to you for setting me straight about the IP not getting set soon enough. Studying these files and scripts sure does help a person learn how this thing works and a lot of the mystery is taken out!
Thanks Again Yog,

Hi Folks,
I am a newbie to Tivo hacking and I must say I love it so far. I recently hacked my RCA-DVR40 and Samsung SIRS4080 with fresh larger hard drives. I installed with PTVnet and their corresponding Instantcake images. I got the networking to work, tivowebplus (v1.3.1) and finally figured out how to telnet and am waiting to figure out how to FTP to superpatch to my unit. Nevertheless, when I try to telnet any of my tivos as detailed above (cd/ptvupgrade/) i get the message "no such file or directory". Can someone help me? Does it have to do with the version of PTVnet I installed? I have Ptvnet 62-1.10 if that helps. Am I missing a step? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I looked all over and can't find the answer within the different forums.
Thanks

What telnet client are you using? If it is a GUI, you don't need to type commands for changing directories.
Otherwise, if you are typing the command exactly as you show here, please try a space after the cd.
cd /ptvupgrade

Hey Cosmo,
Thanks for the follow up. Sorry for my ignorance but what is GUI? I am using microsoft telnet if that answers your question. I read somewhere on the net that I may need to try something called dos2unix? Does that make sense? I will try your suggestion of using a space when I get home later tonite. Let me know if you have any other suggestions given the information I have provided here.

Cosmo and other fellow forum friends,
I can use your help again. I was able to create the folder for superpatch, albeit on the root directory but that should be a non issue from what I have read. I FTP'd ,as binary format, the two tcl files from the superpatch files (mrv and superpatch 67all) to the superpatch folder I created on the root directory. When I went back to telnet, I selected this folder and then I typed the command line to execute the tcl script exactly as detailed above but I get a series of errors stating several things. The first error stating that (./superpatch........tcl) directory did not exist. Other errors talked about syntax etc... ( I can recreate and copy/paste if that would help) After searching on many threads, I have read that I may need to make this script executable by using cmod 755 command, others say that you need to use dos2unix others say that there is a special way to run tcl scripts.
Can anyone help or point me to the right place? If you can provide me with a step by step list of what commands I need to type, that would be great. i really appreciate any help you can provide. I can't wait to get the MRV and HMO working properly.
Thanks

Well, after several different try's, what got my MRV working was to run the ./ptvupgrade/bin/set_ip as Cosmo did, and voila, all is good. Does anyone know why the netconfig from TWP does not stick when you try to input the IP address for static there. I had gotten static to work with the rc.sysinit.author file, setting the flags to STATIC_ON, DHCP_OFF with flag_swap command, but still no MRV. Once I commented out the IP info as suggested, ran set_ip, there MRV was. :D

Stevin- The setup does stick on two of my units. It is only the first one I did (DSR7000) that I had to run Set IP on. Nothing I could do would make the web settings stick on that unit. I'm glad you got it working finally.
Latin- I can't really see where you went wrong without seeing your machine, but do this. Search the net for WINSCP. Use that as your GUI (Graphical User Interface). You will be able to move files all over the place with that and if you right click a file you can see its properties and change it to 755 if you need.

Is it possible to play Dtivo (HR10-250/6.3c-01-2-357) content directly on a PC? So far I've been using TyTools to download the .ty files to my PC and using MPlayer to play the .ty files. I would pefer to just watch shows directly off the Dtivo. This would solve my MRV issues.

Forgive me in advance if this is not the proper place to post this. Or if this question has already been addressed but I just went to enable hmo following these instructions. The first issue I had was that super patch would not load on version 6.2a it said it did not support it. So I loaded it on a copy of 6.2 and all went well. I down loaded tivo decktop 2.3a When I try to import movies from my now playing list the software says there is no dvr found on the server and tivo desk top says I need a media access key which I can`t find on my sddvr40 in account info. Is there a patch file to use super patch with version 6.2a and where can I find this media access key to enable the now playing list and import recordings?

Hello evevryone. I just install my new upgrade HDD with PTVNET6.2a and ICAKE. on my DTIVO RCA 40 and it works great with no problem. I install the 6.2a superpatch. I already have a Tivo S2 box that works and install Tivodesktop 2.3. The Tivodesktop 2.3 can only see Tivo box, not the DTIVO. I know I have a good contection. Please advise

Hiya Folks - I recently applied a 6.3c version of InstantCake / PTVNet to 2 HR10-250's. Went to apply superpatch, and got a message saying "Error: Version 6.3c-01-2-357 is not supported."
I used the version of the Superpatch on DD at: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43325
Is there an updated patch I should use for 6.3c?
Thanks!

I have two Hughes HDVR2 hacked with InstantCake and PTVnet. HMO and MRV hacks have been run. Both units see each other. HMO works fine. Each unit is each other's Now Playing List. However, when I go to access either unit I get the following error:
Programs cannot be transferred from the DAE4 DVR to the 57E4 DVR because the DAE4 DVR
does not yet recognize the 57E4 DVR.
Have you purchased Home Media Option for both DVRs? If so, try connecting to the DVR
service from each DVR. If not, go online to Manage My Account at http://www.tivo.com/manage.
If you continue to see this message, go to Transfer Troubleshooting under Messages & Setup for
assistance.
I've searched around and can't find anything about this. Any help??

Sorry to break down and submit a post, but I've searched and searched so many threads in this and other forums with no luck. I hacked a Hughes HDVR2 unit with PTVnet and IC. Installed the Superpatch, named my tivo (even though I only have the one unit) and put the Standby back on the main page. I used TyTools to extract content, edited out commercials and such, no problem. Now what seems like the easiest thing to do, I'm having no luck with. I cannot get my tivo unit to recognize my ip address for the HMO pictures & music feature. I've installed tivo desktop 2.4, published photos and music in the software, beacon service is fine and the server properties confirms the ip address I'm to input. Both McAfee and Windows firewalls are disabled. I've manually added the server to my tivo, but yet it still says that it is not found. It's probably some little thing I have to configure, but need some fresh ideas. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

No suggestions? Yog, are you still monitoring this thread? I can't believe I'm the only one to have this problem. Since this is my first experience with a router (wired Netgear), I'm thinking it might have something to do with the configuration. I have no problem going from TiVo to PC, but perhaps a limitation is blocking PC to TiVo. But I have no idea on where to start with the router settings. And yes, I've restarted the TiVo box several times. Help!

I just redid two HDVR2 boxes using IC and PTVnet. Both boxes are setup to use DHCP with the DHCP server assigning specific addresses by MAC. I installed the superpatch and set the MRV name and I can see each DVR from the other. I can transfer from the upstairs DVR (DVR2) to the downstairs DVR (DVR1) but not vice versa. DVR2 says it is unable to establish a connection. DVR1 is wired directly to the network while DVR2 is connected to the network via two WRT54G wireless routers configured as a wireless distribution system using DD-WRT v23 SP2. Any ideas why the upstairs DVR is unable to connect?

Beagan-
I am having the ssame issue that you are ... I hacked by Dtivo DSR7000 and can connect and download content (love TyTool!) ... No problem.
But Tivo Direct 2.4 doesn't seem to work. I'm thkning of trying to find an older verion of this software.
Were you able to solve your problem?
TIA ...

Still no luck. I've just been searching other forums, hoping to stumble across someone else having this same problem. You're actually the first one I've found. I guess trying an older version might work. Are you able to at least go into 2.4 and publish photo's? It seems like the problem would more likely be something to do with my router. My TiVo box can't locate my IP address. I don't know anything about configuring router settings and I've seen others post something about opening ports. I'm at a loss.

Thanks Yog. I was able to get v2.1 and it's working fine. Is there any reason I should use the 2.3a posted?
Now that I've finally been able to get my three main concerns working (pics, music & extracting content...anyone know of free software to get this onto dvd in the best possible quality) I'm curious to what other cool hacks are available for DirecTiVo units only. I was hoping to use Audio Faucet to better organize my music that is being directed from my iTunes folder to my TiVo, but it's telling me I need software 7.? and I'm using 6.2 (I thought this was my only choice for the hack). It's really a pain to have to sit there holding the page down button to get to The Who folder (almost 3,000 folders in my iTunes folder). Also, it looks like I can only play one album at a time. I'd love to just be able to shuffle a genre. Is this something only offered to standalone TiVo's. Is there a section somewhere that states all the DirecTiVo-only capablities on a hacked unit?
Thanks.

OK, must have missed something.
Did my first Build DirecTivo on a Hughs SDDVR40 with InstaCake 6.2a-01-2-351 and ptvnet62-1.10. Install went off flawlessly.
Attempting to activate the MRV and HMO and pushed the Superpatch-67all-NuteKase-1.1.tcl and executed. I get
Your Tivo Software version is 6.2a-01-2-351
Please write down your TiVo Software version.
Error: Version 6.2a-01-2-351 is not supported.
Where'd I goof it.
