I guess I am doing something wrong and have searched for over 6 hours now to find the problem.
I follow the instructions exactly to apply the superpatch and get errors and a restart every time.
This was a fresh InstantCake and PTVnet 6.2 install on a RCA DVR40.
Here is the output;
Tmk Assertion Failure:

Enabling MRV and HMO with a DirecTiVo
Categories: Integrated DVRs
Two things that make a TiVo stand out among DVRs: MRV and HMO. MRV (Multi-Room Viewing) allows programs recorded on one TiVo to be watched on another. HMO (Home Media Option) allows TiVos to view photos and listen to music that are stored on a computer. The following instructions assume you have already built a DirecTiVo disk using PTVNet (or PTVNet and InstantCake, for a "fresh" installation).
MRV:
- Download SuperPatch. You must be a member of DealDatabase and logged in to do so.
- Extract the files to your hard disk using a utility such as Power Archiver.
- Make your TiVo read/write using Hackman in TiVoWebPlus ("Start: Remount read/write"); another option would be to type rootwrite at a bash prompt in telnet.
- Telnet to your Tivo and enter
- cd /ptvupgrade/
- mkdir /superpatch
- FTP the extracted SuperPatch files to /ptvupgrade/superpatch/ (I recommend SmartFTP for this.)
- Telnet again:
- cd /ptvupgrade/superpatch/
- ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl
- ./set_mrv_name_67.tcl yourtivoname (replace "yourtivoname" with what you want your other TiVos to see this TiVo as)
- reboot
HMO:
(in addition to the above instructions):- Download and install TiVo Desktop. For the Media Access Key, leave it blank and ignore any warnings thereafter.
- Start TiVo Desktop.
- Set your Music and Photos folders.
- Server > Start Server
- Go to your TiVo's main screen (notice a new "Music and Photos" option).
Read here for a possible solution.
Which FTP client did you use?

UPDATE:
Mark informed me that the information in the link above fixed his issue. The fix was to type
export TIVO_ROOT=
export MFS_DEVICE=/dev/hda10
at a bash prompt in telnet prior to running any scripts.

Thank you very much Yog-Sothoth!
I was about ready to give up when you came through with the answer.
Everything works now, so I will remove the 120GB HD I tested with and proceed with the final build once all the parts arrive.
Just waiting for the FA120 adapter and 300GB HD to arrive Monday to start the process again!
You and the forums are much appreciated!
Also, thanks to PTVUpgrade for making the process much easier.
The newest Tivo Desktop (2.2) broke the HMO on my 6.2/InstantCake/PtvUpgrade DirectTivo SD unit. The Music and Photos banner appears, and I can add a server but it never connects.
The previous Tivo Desktop worked fined. Something changed.
I need to dig into this and see what changed.

TiVo Desktop 2.2 is what I am using.

I just did a fresh build on my DVR40 last night with InstantCake 6.2 and PTVnet 6.2, and then the superpatch and TIVO Desktop 2.2 works fine for me.
Yog,
Thanks for a great write-up.
I did come across one problem though. When it says to Telnet to your Tivo and enter cd /ptvupgrade/ then mkdir /superpatch By doing this, I ended up creating a /superpatch directory on the root. I tried to remove the directory using RMD without any luck. Is there a way to remove a directory on the tivo?

rmdir
FYI, it doesn't really matter where you place the SuperPatch file before you run it.

Thanks for the FYI Yog but going back to my original question, is it possible to delete a directory from the DTivo?
Thanks again for all of your hard work.

Huh? Did I miss something? I replied above with the proper command to delete a directory.
rmdir directory_name

Yog,
I deeply apologize for that. I didn't see the rmdir command in your original posting.
Thanks again for all of your hard work and patience.
hello,
I want MRV and HMO on my direcTivo, but I don't want to constantly babysit a hacked tivo. Is there much of that required? I am curious if directv or tivo will do anything. Obviously I am willing to give up the warantee on the hardware, but will they cancel my service or download new software that thwarts the hacks and then need to be re-hacked?
Sure you don't know for certain but directv is coming out with a new dvr with their own media access crap that they will likely want to get more dollars for and hence will not be kind to hacked directivos possibly?
here was a resonse I got from directv when asking them why they have a pile-o-crap version of tivo:
The USB ports on our current DVR models are not available for networking, the TiVo Home Media Option or TiVo ToGo. Today, these features are only available on the TiVo Series 2 standalone models.
However, as you may have heard, we're preparing to launch a new advanced technology system called the DIRECTV Home Media Center. Our new Home Media Center will allow you to share, move and view content from room to room, throughout the house. It will also have DVR functionality and the capability to support both standard-and high-definition signals. We expect to have more information about this new advanced receiver soon, so please stay tuned to DIRECTV.com for the latest updates.

A hacked TiVo requires no "babysitting," although a reboot once in a while is a good idea.
As long as you're not doing something illegal, such as cracking to get free programming, there's nothing to worry about with DirecTV. I have five hacked units.

The only thing I really have to do to mine is reboot twice when I get the nag to call message.
I get the following error when I try and execute the superpatch. Any ideas how I might correct this? bash-2.02# cd /ptvupgrade/superpatch/ bash-2.02# bash-2.02# ls set_mrv_name_67.tcl superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl bash-2.02# bash-2.02# ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl bash: ./superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl: No such file or directory bash-2.02# bash-2.02#
Hello,
Strange HMO problem: I have an HDVR2 with IC/PTVnet 6.2/Superpatch67. All patching went well. Installed TivoDesktop 2.2. Could see photos/music. After a few hours, I started getting the 'Manually Add server' line on the Music/Photos menu. Apparently the DVR can't find/contact the PC. Network connectivity is fine between the two. I added server manually. Didn't work. Removed/re-installed TivoDesktop. Rebooted. Got the DVR to see the PC briefly before it went back to not seeing the PC. Disabled firewall/antivirus etc. on the PC. No go. PC finds HDVR2, but PC is not seen on DVR menu.
Checked the TivoDesktop logs -- TivoBeacon is getting responses back from DVR. PC is getting request from the DVR and is processing it (no errors seen in log). Any help is much appreciated. thx
I have installed Tivo Desktop 2.2 successfully. I have even transferred pictures and mp3 files successfully to my DirecTivo RCA DVR40. PTVnet upgrade, instantcake and superpatch are all good.
When I view my "Now Playing" list in the Tivo Desktop, it says that "There are no Tivo recordings on MY Now Playing List".
When I select the "Pick Recordings to Transfer" button, the next window says "There are no Tivo DVRs available on the network".
Why can't I see the recordings in my Tivo's Now Playing List? I have transfered music and pictures so I do have connectivity.
Thanks in advance for your help and direction.
Having similar problem seeing my now playing list using Tivo Destop 2.3. I can transfer Music and photos but get the "no DVR found" when trying to access the now playing. What I have been able to get working is vserver streaming to WMP and WinDVD from TivoWebPlus and tserver to extract media via TyTools but I'm trying to make the process a bit easier for my girfriend by using Tivo Desktop for extraction. I have a feeling this may not work since i do not have any real Media Access Key but wanted to confirm before I try another avenue.
Phillips7000 DirecTivo 220hours, PTVnet, Instantcake 6.2, superpatched6.7. vserver, tserver
Thanks in advanced
I hate to sound all uneducated and all, but I just installed a PTVupgrade kit for my Hughes dtivo and I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere: is superpatch pre-installed?
James Wynn: no, SuperPatch is not part of PTVnet.

The above article applies to the following DirecTiVos:
The article does not apply to the R10, as that requires hardware modification in order to be hacked. It also does not apply to a Hughes HR10-250 (HD TiVo), as that model [currently] does not run software version 6.2. The DirecTV R15, DirecTV's latest DVR, is not a TiVo.
To use MRV with standalone TiVos, the standalones must be "SuperPatched" as well.
