Please refer to the release notes for your specific version of InstantCake before proceeding with your installation (see below for specifics).
We have designed InstantCake to be as easy-to-use as possible, however we cannot guarantee that it will work on your specific PC, as some older systems have trouble booting from CD, or may not have enough memory to load the InstantCake software properly. PTVupgrade is not responsible for InstantCake not working on your PC, or if you cannot get the software to work properly on your PC. If you are concerned about this possibility, please do not purchase the product.

If you receive common error: /dev/hdc: No such device or address
(As per Roy) "disable the SATA controller in the BIOS" should eliminate that error in newer PC's.
Also:
1. New (TiVo) drive = Master 2nd/secondary
CDRom drive = Slave 1st/primary
2. As per Troesler "your computer should have two ide connectors, primary and secondary and you can connect a master and slave to each. The instructions tell you to hook the CD to the primary slave and the drive you want to bake to the secondary master. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ON THE SAME CABLE. "
Hello! I currently have a Pioneer DVR-810HS [7.3.1-tak-01-2-225] that I had expanded to a 400GB hard drive. I would like to expand it with a Seagate 750GB drive. I see that the InstantCake disc is version [7.2.0-01-2-275], also that the instructions are vague about drives larger than 500GB. I have upgraded 4 TiVo units, so I'm comfortable, but haven't used the InstantCake product and don't know if that is the best solution of if there is something extra I need to do to support the 750gb drive. I'm sure someone else has done this as the unit and the hard drive have been around for awhile. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you for the help!

Please refer to the Official Support (linked above) as this question has been asked/answered there a handful of times (there are a couple of potential solutions to the problem: PC-related, CD-ROM-related, or possibly your CD-media. If you review the thread, you should find what you are looking for...

got it... Had a bad secondary IDE ribbon. replaced it and worked like a charm.... The boot cd was fine..
Thanks in advance for your help.
I ran the ISO I downloaded and the install began. The install stopped and I received the following message: MOUNT:/DEV/IS NOT A BLOCK DEVICE/ETC/RC.D/RC.S:/CDROM/.LIVE/BIN/PTVBAKE. NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY/#
Does this mean I have a bad ISO?
Sounds like a PC configuration issue; please see the first post of this discussion (as well as the links below) to get you on the right track.

I have a question. I have a Directv Hughes HDVR2. I have recently purchased and successfully installed icake-s2dt-62 and ptvnet-s2dt-62. When I first attempted to boot my tivo with the new hard drive, everything seems to have loaded and work fine, except my USB ports. I have tried numerous different usb-ethernet adapters, and can’t seem to get any of them to work. I had originally said no to the USB question in the install, as my adapters are all USB 1.0. I cant even get a green light to come on my USB adapters. I have tried restarting the tivo and am lost. Any suggestions from anyone.? My ethernet adapter is a Linksys USB100M.
Scott
Has there been any resolution using the Linksys USB100M? I'm having the exact same problem. It seems these devices don't work, but DVRupgrade states that they are supported. I know the USB100M is support and works with the TIVO stand-alone.
No, I even bought a Netgear FA101 which everyone says will work, and same problem. Any suggestions?
downloaded instantcake and set it up per instructions, installed 2 new drives in my pc, booted instantcake and gor the message /dev/hdc: no such device or address Restore failed: unable to open destination device for writing. tpip error opening /dev/hdc: No such device or address
WHAT DOSE THIS MEAN OR AM I SET UP WRONG?

I "cooked" a seagate 750gb db drive for my series 3. Everything looked great on the PC side including the note that the larger drive was recognized. The drive worked when I put it in the Tivo but the system did not show the larger drive. I did a "clear and delete everything" and the TIVO still did not recognize that the drive was larger.
Any suggestions????
Can InstantCake be undone?
Once InstantCake is run successfully on a hard drive, but the hard drive not used afterwards, can the cake be undone so whatever was on the hard drive prior to being baked would be accessible again?
I InstantCaked a hard drive I shouldn't have and would now like to undo it, if at all possible. Please help.
Just did my third Instantcake upgrade with zero problems. Really easy and quite fantastic!
I have changed two SA units with dual drives to single 500 Gb drives, and a DirecTiVo with two drives upgraded also to a single 500 - all went really smoothly and fast, with nary a hitch!
For the first two (the SA units) I ordered the CD. For the latest - the DirecTiVo unit - I downloaded the image and used Nero to make the CD.
I used a Win XP machine, followed the directions, and in about an hour had my DirecTiVo back together and downloading data. The local channels appeared this morning.
Wow. One happy camper!
